  • A Black Friday Closing

At a time when many retailers are opening on Thanksgiving, it's refreshing to see that REI will close 'til that Saturday.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

That means that the workers get to stay a little extra time at home this year. Good for them.

Or it's possible that they and their family will hit other "black Friday" sales...

      Not saying it'll happen...but it's possible.

So far, none of the stores announcing they'll stay closed on Thanksgiving are places I would think of doing Black Friday shopping at.

But I am hopeful that the positive media coverage these stores are getting, combined with lower sales that ate up more payroll, will make this year a turning point and Black Friday will go back to Friday.

Our company closes on Thanksgiving Day, too, and I hope they will continue to do so forever. Since they've started splitting up the Black Friday Sale into Wednesday and Friday, BF isn't quite so horrible, either. It's still crazy busy, but not nearly as bad as years past.

Thanksgiving is a holiday, a time to spend with family and friends, enjoying a fine feast and time together. It should not be usurped by greedy corporations to further line their pockets.

Or by greedy customers shrieking for STUFF.

I'm betting that if customers weren't demanding Black Friday, merchants wouldn't want to spend the extra money on payroll/cleanup/repairs/security/LP/lawsuits/etc.

I have to work on thanksgiving because that's the last day my store is going to be open, I have no idea how late we are going to be open until though. It feels weird that I'm gonna be on unemployment but I could use the break.
