  • The job I walked out of

This is the only job I walked out if. This was several years ago. I took the job because I needed to get out of toxic atmophere of my current place. I was taking payments for pre-paid cell phones. It was pretty cut and dry. Credit, debit or pre-paid card. Nothing hard no trouble with the current phone carrier the had me working. It was busy but that was okay.

The nightmare started when they got a new client and I got moved to it. The Noisy Insect. They had an automated over the phone payment system. If you made a mistake or fat-fingered the numbers you got sent to a rep.

They charged $5 for speaking to a rep. However, if you complained, we waived it. Every call started with an angry rant. I don't blame anyone for being upset. I would be too. We had a ridiculously short handle time for these calls. That time would be possible if I wasn't having to calm down angry customers each call.

I asked my lead multiple times to be transferred to another client and kept getting tild it would get better. That was a lie. It got worse because NI decided that no one speaks to customer service unless they have active serice on their account. People weren't happy about this. Again I don't blame them. The company wouldn't even let us transfer if they asked for a manager. We could only hang up after 3 warnings. This did eventually change because it held up reps.

The final straw was being told I wasn't making their impossible metrics. I was taking 70-90 calls day just filled with unhappiness. Most days I couldn't decide if I wanted to cry, scream obcenities or just beat my computer with my keyboard. No one who worked there was happy.

As soon as got the vague promise of another job. I walked out of there. For some reason they seemed confused by this. I wish nothing but fiery rashes to the people who thought this was a good way to treat customers.

Was that before or after Death Star bought them?

Oh, good. My company had not taken on the financing for them yet.. Probably the reason we got their business.
