  • scared the h*ll outta me

i work in a casino, and this morning (i am on night shift) i hear a knock on the door to the change booth.

i go over to answer, thinking it's an manager who forgot there access card. there instead was a patron with a handful of chips wanting to cash them in. i told him to "go around the corner, as i am not doing anything for anyone at the door." he yells "where" and i say "around the corner"
i than attempt to close the door,as i have 180,000 dollars under my responsibility and i am not letting anyone in the booth who isn't supposed to be there. he puts his body against it and puts a hand between the door and the door frame. i have my entire body weight (all 72 Kgs) against the door and i push. i jam his fingers and he cries out in pain and pulls his hand back. i get the door closed and run and hit the duress bar.
security comes from everywhere and i tell them what happened. they than grab the guy and drag him off.

i since found out he has 3 broken fingers and i will need to go to court and testify over this

I hope they don't try to give you too hard a time over this. There is no reason he should be trying to force his way into the booth. Good luck!

At least he should be on camera. You were protecting yourself. You don't know what kind of lunatic he is. He could've had a gun for all you know. You were doing your job. I hope everything goes okay for you, keep us posted okay?

Give her a hard time??? She just stopped a robbery!! The guy can whine and Lie all he wants! You don't explain away breaking and entering in a Casino cash box! The inside AND outside of that door MUST have cameras on it. The thief is COOKED! Even attempting to cheat is hard time! This? He's lucky if they even SAY the word Bail, let alone let him out under a few mil!

I'd bet you'll get an official "attaboy" over this!

If you don't get commended for stopping him from trying to break in and do God knows what, I will be a sad, sad panda.
Well done! What the hell was he trying to do? You TOLD him where to go, frankly I think he was lying...

Here's hoping that the SC gets what he deserves.

Maybe you should suggest to your bosses that there should be some way to see who is knocking on the door, like a peep hole or a small window.

my boss said to me that if it was him... he would have broken all 5 fingers. they are extremly happy with the way i handled the situation.

the official policy has been that the door is always locked and the only entry is with a pass but this was not enforced. this has officially changed.

i'm back on friday night, and will post on saturday as to what is said (if anything)

                Wow.

Yeah, file this under "Extremely suspicious and aggressive behavior." This guy was a robber. Plain and simple.

Thank God you were not hurt.

Definitely get a peephole in that door. It takes like a minute, one battery operated drill, a peephole, and a little vacuum to clean up the sawdust, and DONE. Too little work to give any excuse to do it.

problem is the doors have a steel core so it's not that simple

Hmmm... that does tend to complicate things. Perhaps, since there are cameras on the outside of the door, they could install a monitor inside that would allow you to see who's standing there? It would be more expensive than a peephole, but also better. Peepholes can always be covered, but it's a little harder to cover a camera.

That should stop it happening again.

While suggestions are being posted, how about a duress bar closer to the door? What if you weighed less than 72 kg (or 72kg wasn't enough) and it was all the way across the room? Something else to consider.

I really hope you don't get in trouble for this guy being a moron. I mean what exactly were you suppose to do? Let him in?

If you Do have cameras monitoring the door outside and in, you can ask the managers to think about having security wire a copy of the outside camera to a small monitor by the door inside.
