  • Dumb Kid

This isn't about a sucky customer, just a rather mind-numbingly supid one.

/background At my current job (community center) when non-members come in they fill out a form with name, DOB, and address so we can put them in the computer.

14-15 yr old kid comes up with his filled out form, looking over it i see he left his DOB blank.

Me: Can I have your DOB please?

    Kid: uhm. . .uhm June.

    Me: Full DOB please

    Kid: uhm June 16th

    Me: What YEAR??

    Kid: 1994

I'm pretty sure the kid was high enough for Ben Franklin to have attached a key to him and use him for his experiements, but lord if not they should check his parents for indentical chromosomes.

Kids are getting stupider and stupider with each passing generation. They can effortlessly make illegal downloads, use iPhones with ease... but they can't enunciate, think for themselves, or ask/answer simple questions.

Jeez, I sound like a cranky old fart... and I'm only 25!

I'm only 23 but I want a cane. They are so much cooler than the walker.

Gotta get those damn kids off my lawn.

I'm 16, and I hate kids. I'll take a cane please. I do these rants all the time with older people and they ask me "aren't you a kid?" I reply "Physically yes, mentally, no."
It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office.

                    I think

Kids are neither brighter or dumber than they ever were, but society, technology and most of all parents tend to push kids away from the middle ground.

Go to a modern day science fair and the mind just boggles at what kids today study and do. It is no longer just reproducing something out of a book. Some real original research is being done by these kids, a few years ago I remember two girls finding a treatment for a genetic disease. Not a cure, but a treatment that would keep a person alive when before there was nothing modern medicine could do.

But with programs that make it easier for kids to slide by their education, many kids have become lazy because the systems/parents around them let them do so.

When I was in college here in Canada, my parents moved to Florida with my younger brothers, two years later they moved back. My brother said it was a relief to return because in Miami High the kids spend their time trying to prove that they were at-least 1/32 Black or N.A. Indian because they got automatic passes or upgrades of their marks for a number of courses.

No-one wanted to learn in class!

earl, i'm going to have to, as a graduated student in the good old south florida, contest you on that race statement. We have no such incentives here whatsoever. I would like to know which schools they were so I can look into it.

Sometimes I think the rich kids are dumber than the middle-class kids.
Rich family + Money = Phone, Internet, video games, etc.
Middle-class family + money = Gas, electricity, water, education.

Perhaps this is why I'm smarter than my classmates.

The little buggers also seem totally incapable of divergent thinking, too. If you don't have what they're looking for, they have absolutely no clue about how else to go about finding it. Like another store, the internet. You wouldn't believe how many times I suggested searching the web for some obscure CD that we didn't carry only to be met with astonishment. "You mean we could find it there? I never would have thought of that!" And I wish that I was exaggerating.

Read that as a "five-chime Leslie Nielson!" and about fell out of my chair laughing.
"No, I'm doing a one-man show here! Leslie Nielson, Leslie Nielson, Leslie Nielson!"
                              ...
