  • Secret Santa exchange?

Another forum I subscribed to sent out invitations to do a secret santa gift exchange, with the focus being on sending gifts that are specific to your local area so we get to send a little of our culture to our friends around the country/globe. I know we do a Christmas card exchange, and some are strapped for cash during the season, but is this anything you guys would be interested in? If it's too late at this point, maybe something to consider for next year?

    Just a thought.

Well, it's certainly too late to do it this year, as you indicate. Next year? If anyone wants to take the baton and run with it, that's up to them, but let us know first?

Cute idea but I'm still a bit soured at the whole Secret Santa thing.

I signed up for it at work last year, and got fuck-all while I was buying gifts for my person as I was supposed to. Manager in charge of the whole thing had to take pity on me and buy me something just so I got something.

Years ago I did this on another board I frequented at the time.

I was pretty freaked out when the man who got my name sent me a pair of very, VERY expensive diamond earrings and had no qualms with letting me know he was my not-so-secret Secret Santa.
He kept sending me gifts and it all got weird and I finally quit the board and discontinued all contact with all board members.

        Uhm... bah humbug?

I just think it would be really neat to get something from a place I've never seen. Someplace like, oh, say, Australia. (I want to visit so bad!)

Come to think of it, this wouldn't have to be a Christmas thing. We could do it anytime of year and call it the 'Culture Exchange'.

Maybe when Christmas has passed and the chaos of the holidays has settled down, it is something I could look into? I would be willing to head it up. Do I go ahead and ask approval from the powers that be, or send a PM when the time comes?

            I think it's a really fun idea.

If you are willing to take on the work of arranging it, then more power to you.

When you feel the time is right, you should still PM an outline of the plans and details to the "powers that be" before starting it up.

It's also important to note to anyone who wants to participate that there is a little more expense to it than there is for the Christmas Card exchange, because one is mailing packages, rather than cards, and the contents of the packages, as well as the postage, can run a little higher.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Sorry about the earlier post. It just reminded me of it and well, there you go. The Christmas card exchange always works out fine and I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job at it. Maybe after the card exchange is over you should PM JuniorMintz and see if she has any pointers since she's headed it up for 2 years.
