  • This is what happens when you assume..

This has been the worst case of customer idiocy I have ever heard from calls I take. This customer made the first mistake anyone does by assuming.

    Me: The usual cynical rep
    EW: Entitlement Whore

    Me: Opening Spiel
EW: Hello, I have a complaint.
Me: Whats the issue your having?
EW: About a year ago I bought this HD box and had it installed and paid for it, after specifically telling your reps about what my tv was. I had assumed I would be getting a box with a HDMI port as well that all HD boxes have that port on them. I found out a year later when I get to set it up for HDMI that it did not have the port. So what am I going to have to pay another tech to come do the installation of another box?
Me: Well that particular model does not have a HDMI port on it. The brand you want is a 8300HD or 8300HDC. I can set you up for a tech to bring out that box if you want.
EW: That would be a free installation is that right?
Me: Unfortunately, that would be a charge for any installation.
EW: I want to speak to a Manager, this is rediculous
Me: Very well, stand by please.

The sup took the call but yet the sub all of a sudden is willing to pay for a tech to come out to do the installation? wtf?

So ... he felt it was better assuming than lets say .... asking? Or perhaps even looking for the mystery port on the box before it's installed?

By the time he got to the sup, he probably "assumed" he would get free installation.

That and the story no doubt evolved to "the rep a year ago told me it would work, so he/she must have been lying". You know, believe whatever the customer says and all that.

To be fair, most consumers know dick about HD, and are pretty much getting railroaded into it, since they're not selling normal def TVs in most markets. Also, HDMI is usually touted as the "True HD hookup" so getting an HD box, one might believe that includes the "real HD connection." He's still a prick for his reaction when he found out he was wrong.
