  • Help!!! I am married to an SC (long rant)

I knew my husband cold be an SC but lately he has gone WAY over board.

Here are 2 examples from this past weekend on Friday I was to worn out/ lazy to cook so on my way home from work I stopped at a cheap Mexican food restaurant (no not Taco Bell.) Anyways I ordered everything my kids wanted and what my husband wanted, my youngest is typically the picky kid so I ordered his Taco with out lettuce but with sour cream (not to bad) When I get home I had one bag to my husband and I start handing out the food to my oldest two kids there food, but I can't find my youngest son's taco. I asked my husband if the taco was in the bag that he had in his hands. His digs through the bag and says

H: Are you sure you ordered it?
Me: Yes it was the first thing I ordered see here's the receipt

by this time I have handed my son a burrito that was supposed to be mine and he is eating raving about how good it is.

H: Well go back and demand the taco and compensation for having to drive all the way back there, tell them that it is the only thing your son will eat. you want the taco and your money back.
Me: It was a 49 cent taco it would cost more in gas to drive back there then the taco is worth.
H: but if you don't go back then they win
    Me: they win??
H: yeah they will think they can get away with not giving people there food, besides what is A going to eat?
Me: Mistakes happen and A is currently eating my burrito with out complaint
H: no mistakes don't happen they did it on purpose
Me: IT WAS A 49 CENT TACO IT IS NOT WORTH ME DRIVING ALL THE WAY BACK THERE DROP IT

He dropped it after that, but then I am picking up wrappers and throwing things in the garbage I pick up the bag that I had handed to my husband and in the bottom of the bag sat one single soft taco without lettuce, but with sour cream.

Me: hey look what I just found
    H: Where was that?
Me: In the bag I told you to check
    H: Oh well mistakes happen
    Me:

Skip ahead to Sunday. I spent all day cleaning the house so I didn't really have time to cook. Again it is time to support our local fast food restaurant. I order a fish sandwich for my husband and they ask me if I want Cajun or classic, I say classic and then order the rest of our food. I get home there are 2 fish sandwiches instead of one.

H: how many did you order?
    Me: I only ordered one
    H: what was the total?
    Me: $xx.xx
H: Well they charged you for 2 do you have the receipt?
Me: No I didn't get one

So we start eating, and one of th4e fish sandwiches is a Cajun instead of a classic.

H: Can you get me some tarter sauce this is spicy?
Me: It's spicy it shouldn't be I told him I wanted classic
H: well take these both back they screwed up and they over charged you, I want replacements and money back!!!!! And do not try to tell me it will cost to much in gas this place is only a block away.
Me: check the other one first to see if it is Cajun also
H: I don't have to I know they screwed up, I want you to go in there demand to talk to the manager, I want replacements, and I want to be credited back.

So I pick up both fish sandwiches and head back to the restaurant. Thinking there is NO WAY I am going in there demanding to talk to a manager or to be credited back.

I walk in and explain the situation to the cashier

Me: Hi i went through drive thru a couple minutes ago and ordered a fish sandwich along with a couple other sandwiches. When I got home there where 2 fish sandwiches, but I don't know if I was charged for 2 I don't have a receipt, the problem is I requested classic and this one is Cajun.
C: did you check the other one?
Me: My husband says it smells spicy but he didn't taste it
C: Well the one with a bite in it is Cajun the other is classic.
    Me: Ok
C: We will just replace both of them for you, I can also credit you back for one of the fish sandwiches
    Me: Thank you.

I don't know what to do lately he has become a total SC and he expects me to be the messenger because he is sick and can not leave the house.

I like how when it's him, "mistakes happen", but when it's someone else they "did it on purpose."

I think I might ask him that.

I'd also refuse to get take out with him till he calmed down a bit. And I'd also try to figure out what's really bothering him. Cuz it makes no sense to get that worked up over a 49 cent anything.

Could the side effects of any of his meds be "may make patient want others to act like an SC"?

Princess - I feel for you. Next time I would just offer to drive him and he can go in and say/ do what he wants. Just make sure he knows upfront you will not provide bail money.

I second what Emrld said: Has he always been this way, or could it be a side effect of his medication, since he's ill?

My father has never been the most patient of men, but since he's been diagnosed and is being treated for type II diabetes, he's become nearly impossible. And the mood swings are unpredictable and swift.

I feel for you, I really do.

I'm sorry. He may be sick and your husband, but GOD what an ass. Then again, I don't know what kind of a guy he is normally, but just from that observation, most definitely. Claiming mistakes don't happen is definitely a SC comment. Besides, what does he think? We get up all like "YA!! YOU DA MAN!!" all high-fiving each other and such when we make a mistake?! Come on now. You ought to ask him if that's what happens when he screws someone over at work. When he says no, respond with "Oh well, everyone makes mistakes."

He has always been somewhat of an entitlement whore. He was put on meds that suppress his immune system so he can't go out in public due to germs. He has been on the meds for a year and recently he had decided that because he is sick he should have everything the way he wants it.

WOW - please don't step on me while I am bowing down at your feet.
Marriage is not an easy undertaking. The fact that you are recognizing what is going on, not killing him, not wanting to kill him. Give the impression that you are as in love with him now as when married him.
I find really impressive and deserving of a standing ovation at this point in your life.

Just make sure you take time for yourself with no guilt. (a 20 min bubble bath with candles, beverage of choice, sanck - like bon bons of choice, and no noise and restful music can do wonders for the spirit)

Hang in there and know that we are hear to listen to any venting you find necessary. HUGS!!

I feel for you, really, but I also feel for your husband.

I mean, for most people, there's an out/escape whenever they get really stressed. They run/bike/drive away from whatever is stressing them out, and then they calm down and deal with things. If your husband is basically incapable of leaving the house, and you have a child or two who live with you full time, that's an equation for getting stressed out of your mind and any less-than-desirable traits you have being amplified. Try to be patient with him, but again, I feel for you, you aren't really in a good situation.

Being housebound can change people, too. A very close relative of mine is completely bedridden, and hasn't been out of the house in 2 years. He fixates on small things, like the brand of toothpaste his wife buys.

Its a side effect of being utterly dependent on other people. He feels powerless, so he overreacts to small things.

The husband was simply pointing out that not disputing a potential mistake means the TERRORISTS win.

I know the feeling. I really do. My husband had to cash a check at a bank that has screwy hours. The drive-through was for people who have accounts at that bank (we don't). So I tell him they won't cash this check because we don't have an account here (the customer who issued it does, which is why he was going to cash it there). He then starts talking about how he was going to MAKE them do it. After about 5 minutes of this, I finally just said, "Yeah, good luck with that, honey!" Of course, at that point he got tired of my griping and went to our bank.

I love my husband dearly, but I REALLY would have liked to see the teller tell him to go suck a nut.

You could leave the house for a little bit, spend some time at a park, come back and say the store could not do anything without a receipt--not completely a lie...
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

yeesh anytime ANYONE and I mean anyone, reacts to something minor I make them read a news story about either the war, or the homeless, or some parent that killed their child, and then ask them what was so important to get worked up over.

It's kind of evil I know-but I don't know anyone that doesn't need some grounding once in a while.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes
