  • A little supervision please...

    Doors, people

Yes, our store comes equipped with baby-changing facilities. You'd expect this in a toy store, especially one that carries a baby section. Please note, however, that the baby changing facilities come equipped not only with changing mats, but also doors that close and lock.

Please make use of them. Other customers (and staff for that matter) don't particularly need to see/smell your child's faecal matter as we're coming out of the toilets.

I know Apathy will agree with this one

Although our store comes equipped with the aforementioned facilities, and is full of toys, you will notice that the toys are products, and that this is not a crèche, nor a day-care centre, nor a baby-sitting service. In future, please remember this, and supervise your child. Letting them cycle at high speed around the store whilst obliviously ignoring them is NOT acceptable behaviour.

This applies especially to the 3 (THREE!) families who's children were racingeach other around the store for approximately 40 minutes. God knows we're NOT accepting liability when they fall and hurt themselves, because they refused to stop and we don't know who's kids they are.

See i would get fired if I worked there.
I would announce on the PA system that we found a few abandoned kids. The parents need to come and get them NOW or the police and CYS would be called.

My moment of glory would go something like this:

"Attention shoppers....(Store) is proud to offer it's first annual kid-giveaway. Come to the front of the store to get your free child! Act while supplies last!"

        Yeah....I'd be so fired.
Just because a customer expects you to put some effort into your job, that does not make them an SC.

Yeah, after about half an hour with no sign of any parental authority, I'm all for calling CPS. As much as I hate CPS, I also hate irresponsible parents who don't even make an effort to ensure little precious doesn't get kidnapped or worse.

OMFG I hate people who do that with diapers. When we have to change the kid, we make TOTALLY sure to wrap the sucker up in enough paper towels to make an environmentalist cry. But then again, if they smelled it, it'd probably make them cry worse.

And I also couldn't agree more with watching a kid. On occasion mine's taken off like a shot...but I always immediately go after her. No freaking way am I going to let her get away with that. (Side note: I got a laugh out of a couple of the local Best Buy employees while chasing her the other day. Something about me yelling at her that mommy was moving at "top waddle speed" and when I caught up with her she was gonna get it.)

Parent is a verb, that is to say an action.

That is all I have to say!

Some day, some parent will call Child Services on your store because after their child raced around the store for 40 minutes like that, they fell and got hurt. All because nobody in your store told them to stop what they were doing, even though it was the parents who did nothing when they should have.

                    You can't win these days.

I personally am more of a fan of the "Unattended children will be given espresso, a chocolate bar, and a puppy" approach.

I think this approach may actualy work!

I tried something along these lines to scare a little kid into behaving....I caught up with his parents as they reached the car. They wanted to leave the brat so he could learn a lession! Hell no I dont want your devil spawn!

That's just it, we DID tell them, but due to everyone's over-sensitive nature these days that's ALL we can do. We can't physically interact with them in any way, we'd get into lord only knows how much crap.
