SC in this case stands for Sucky Caller, since he's really not a customer.
SC has been getting calls for him at his mom's. He doesn't have a ph# (yeah, right). Why is he getting calls? He was in a car accident with one of my company's customers, caused a major accident and didn't have car insurance.
On April 3, one of my coworkers set him up on a repayment plan (for what my company paid out and really should not have had to) which was supposed to start May 1st for $250/mo. He has not made that payment yet. He owes us $8,000+ and there are medical bills still pending.
SC: I really can't do that $250.
me: Why did you agree to it then?
SC: Well, the guy just kept talking and I didn't know everything he was saying so I just agreed to it.
strike one
SC: Can't I pay less?
Me: Well, right now it's going to take you nearly 3 years to pay this amount and it's not even a final balance yet. Plus your first payment was due nearly a month ago. The only way we could consider changing this arrangement is if you were current, and that's no guarantee.
SC: But I can't pay 250.
Me: You agreed to it, sir and you had all of our information to call us back that day. Or when you got the promisary note in the mail a week later with your arrangement information on it. You had almost a month to realize that this wasn't something you could do each and every month and CALL us to see if there were other options. But now you're nearly a month past due, your arrangement stands.
SC: (some excuses I don't even remember now) Can't you change it for me?
Me: If you could pay a significant down payment, that would reduce your monthly amount.
SC: I don't have money for a down payment! I don't even have $250.
Me: Have you gotten your tax return yet? How about the $600 stimulus check that you'll be getting? That's a start.
SC: I've got plans for that $$.
My thoughts: (What, hookers?)
strike two
I keep repeating to him that he owes us this, he had a chance to call us and didn't so he's now stuck until the past-due status changes and even then there's no guarantee because he's already showing he has no intentions of taking care of this. As I'm running data searches and finding the info I need for a request to suspend his license to be mailed the moment he's 30 days past due.
SC goes round and round. I don't budge. Fine, whatever, I'm here another hour I don't care!
Then....
SC: What are you going to do to benefit me?
STRIKE THREE
YOU, sir, are not our customer. There is NO reason for us to want to benefit you. We don't HAVE to let you make payments, we could be asking for all of this money NOW. You're getting the benefit of an interest-free debt for the next 3-5 years. It is of NO benefit to us to lower your payments to the point where it will take you 15-20 years. We haven't filed a lawsuit against you, YET.
What more of a benefit do you want, you mangy, matted asshair on the local feral cat?
GRRRR
And then there was the one my coworker had who "couldn't pay that much b/c his g/f was having a baby soon and they needed to buy toys and stuff" when he was driving his care and RUN OVER our customer that was riding his motorcycle (with other people around honking their horns for him to watch where he was going) and KEPT GOING. Our customer died, pull out your credit card and own up. I hope you get charged with vehicular manslaughter.
*note* I'm usually not a heartless bitch. If you take responsibility and show you're doing your best, I'll do all that I can to make sure it's something you can do. I don't set people up to fail if they are realistic and tell me what they really can afford each month. Make excuses? Want favors when you've given us no reason to give you them?
