  • In which a spoilt brat pwns himself

Quite often people will start pumping fuel and send a passenger in to pay before they finish. I always make the person doing the paying wait until the pumping's finished because I heard of a case where the cashier took the payment but the customers took twice as much fuel as they'd paid for.

The SC in this story claimed to be a member of a local family that own a lot of land around town, including the land my workplace is situated on. The old guy I've referred to as the owner in the past owns the business, but rents the land.

SC: "He's getting ten bucks on pump 2"
Me: "I can't put the payment through until it's done."
SC: "You must be new here. My dad owns this place, [name of business owner] rents the land."
Me: "Well I never take payment until the fuel's finished pumping..."
SC: "This is ridiculous! We own this land! (starts rant about how he should get special treatment because he claims to be a relative of the landlord)
Me: (interrupting) "The petrol's done, I'll put the payment through."
SC: (looks in his wallet) "Shit! I left my bank card at McDonald's!"

So he had to borrow $10 from his friend to pay for the petrol.

Also this was at 9pm on a Sunday night. Am I evil for hoping he was talking about a McDonald's that closes at 8:30 on Sundays?

Yes. And I'm proud of you.

Congratulations...? Are you taking some of the land with you? No, you're buying gasoline that was trucked here, thus, NOT your property!

I'd have gotten in his face and informed him that "Daddy" didn't own the business nor did he pay for the fuel and after he gets a basic education on 'Business 101' then he can come back and attempt an intelligent conversation.

Actually now, 12 hours later, I'm wondering if he was an SC to the McDonalds staff and when he went back for the card it had mysteriously not been handed in.

Wouldn't surprise me. It would be an appropriate punishment for his dipshittery, provided somebody isn't cleaning out his bank account with it.

Its weird out here the gas will not come out unless you go to the cashier and put down the amount you want in or have put in your credit card in the machine outside. So, there you can fuel without paying first??

If so, how do you stop them from fueling and then just leaving??

Around my neck of the woods every station I visit is is pre-pay except for one supermarket chain where you can pump first and then pay.

I am all for pre-pay. My friend works at a gas station and has at least one drive-off a week. Then their are the asshats as mentioned above... Who will no doubt 'overfill' by a couple of bucks and drive off. Leaving you report a $2 drive off. No pay = No gas. Simple non?

Also I would put a plexi shield up around the attendants. It may look like like we don't trust the customers, but we don't trust the customers!

Vigilance - take down registration numbers of any vehicle that looks suspicious, and report any thefts to the police ASAP. Our system doesn't let us program pre-pay transactions properly, and the owner wants to delay upgrading as long as possible because it costs money.

That all? The ones around here would love to have figures like that...

Now, you see, to me that all depends on 1) How BIG of an asshat he was and 2) How much money he actually looses.

I'm not advocating identity theft or credit fraud here, by the whole law-of-3 thing I'd say a certain amount of monetary damage and the hassle and red-tape associated with it would be aprox. 3 times the pain and suffering caused by being a total fucktard to people who haven't done crap to him, depending on how long Karma has been saving up the sunshine and rainbows this guy dishes out.

I'm thinking that just the inconvenience of being without a card for a couple of weeks and the fee for losing the old card would be a reasonable start. Then maybe his car's gear box can blow up or something.

Now that would be a sight to see! Rebuilding a gearbox is a bitch, BTW. But still, think of that poor, innocent car!
