Two minor stories of suck today, in order as follows:
1) Guy comes up to register, hands me groceries. I pack as usual. Now, to save bags, I do not pack paper towels because it's a waste of plastic bag. Guy looks at me and goes "Well how the heck am I supposed to get this on the bus?" I got annoyed at that...seriously, next time actually be POLITE and ask me "Can I please have a bag?" . I don't get paid enough for you to be rude to me. The part was that he said absolutely NOTHING about a bus before that. And yes he complained, I haven't been written up for it yet, methinks that I'll most likely get a verbal warning about it.
2) A different guy-of Latino descent (this is important for the record), comes up to my register. Scan, bag, tell total. He hands me an UNSIGNED CREDIT CARD! For those who aren't familiar with the rules, Australian stores (I think it's actually international) DO NOT TAKE UNSIGNED CREDIT CARDS! At that point he started blathering on about how it wasn't from Australia, it was from his country and so forth and proceeded to show me ID. At that point, I snapped. I had been there since 8:30, I hadn't taken my antidepressant (not deliberately) so I had a headache from SSRI withdrawal and was not in the mood. So my response was:
"Well HERE sir, we do not take unsigned credit cards. Now I will NOT put it through for you with that card!" In the end, he complied and paid with a normal debit card.
And a postscript on that: we do not take unsigned credit cards for ANY reason. It doesn't matter if you have ID that matches the name on the card or not, if it's unsigned, we don't accept it. If you don't like it, then fine, go bite my ass and complain to the manager. THey'll tell you the exact same damn thing. You don't like his response? Then go higher. Each time you'll be told: we do not take unsigned credit cards.
