  • Sorry, Try Again

The male child care teacher reminded me of this. I used to work in admin for a child care agency. While we didn't have an offical policy we tried to keep the male staff from the girls over 10 years old whenever possible. Not because the males did anything but we had multiple problems with girls getting crushes on the male staff and when the male staff ignored it, like they should, the girls would cry abuse or cause problems for the staff. Despite best efforts to keep them apart we did want a male at each site and so our middle school site had a male staff. One day I got the following call about that site:

    P: Parent
    C: Me!

C: Thank you for calling [agency], how many I help you?
    P: I am calling licensing!
C: *thinking: darn it!* I am sorry to hear that. If you let me know what the problem is maybe we can fix it and you won't need to call licensing? *sometimes parents won't call if it is something little and we fix it quickly*
P: My daughter was molested! I want to know how you are going to fix that!
    C: *too dumbfounded to speak*
P: She is going to need years of counseling and therapy! I hope you are ready to pay for it!
C: Ma'am if you can please let me know the site and staff involved so I can suspend them until an investigation is done.
P: You'll find out when licensing comes to shut you down!
C: But ma'am I really need to know to prevent anymore situations from occuring. For the safety of the other children please tell me.
P: Fine.... it was [middle school site] and [staff name]
    C:
P: Whats so funny?!?! My daughter was abused!
C: Ma'am [staff] is gay. He and his husband have been living together quite happily since they got married (not legal, just formal ceremony in a church) last year. I doubt he would touch your daughter with a ten foot stick let alone abuse her.
P: Well she was! You will be hearing from my lawyer and licensing! *CLICK*

I know I shouldn't ahve laughed but I couldn't help it. We did call the site and send the staff home until an investigation was done (with pay). Turns out he wasn't even working that day the girl claimed she was abused. Not only that but he was with a different work group in a different part of the school for a week before the girl claimed. Licensing and the police did investigate and agreed it was unfounded and he got moved to a different site to prevent future problems.

I think that girl is going to need years of counselling too... But it will probably be her mother's fault. My parents taught me from the get-go that you do NOT. EVER. cry wolf.

One can hope, but- given a lot of the attitudes out there- I doubt it.

I have a story too. About a guy who used to be in my program over here in Japan. His placement was a Junior High School, a really really rough one. It's famous for that only 10% of its students will go on to high school! Most will become yakuza (Japanese mafia), bosozoku (Japanese bikers who modify their bikes to be as loud as possible), yankees (punks), etc.

So this guy gets this school and he's not liking it at all, but it's got some good points, and his fiancee is also in the program and they've both decided to stay another year. He doesn't even get to finish his first year.

One class he's walking around the desks, helping with a worksheet. He comes up to a girl who's asleep in class and touches her elbow to wake her up so she can do her work. A while later he's called into the principals office. The girl accused him of molesting her.

A few things to know about this girl:
          - She was 13 or so
          - Her 'boyfriends' were 30-40 something yakuzas who would pay for her very expensive handbags, clothes, and accessories, and even paid for her to have some surgeries done, including an eye widening surgery
          - It was well known she slept around with anyone
          - She was an evil, stupid, stuck-up bitch

The principal and teachers said they believed him over her, but couldn't do anything about it. So he told them to shove it where the sun didn't shine and left the program and moved back to the US.

And then the next year.... A came to that school. A was awesome. She had the punk boys wrapped around her little finger. The head punk boy only came to school at lunch so he could eat with A. When A was in class, the students behaved. The scariest boy in school had a huge crush on A. A had the local yakuza, yankees, and bosozoku eating out of her hand. She spoke a very odd version of Japanese, a combination of the female polite princess style and the very rough male yakuza style.

Well the girl tried to start something with A. And karma came and kicked her in the ass because all the punk males in the school descended upon her like the Wrath of God. She backed off of A real quick.

And how did A gain the respect and admiration of these boys?

          Arm wrestling.

Ahhh A... I miss you and your crazy stories.

When she left the school the boys presented her with her own bosozoku jacket. She had to leave because her district was dropping the program so she got a new school. One of the smartest high schools in my prefecture. She was bored to death there.

So he got punished anyway?? -.- *grrr*

Reminds me of what happened at my and my partner's favorite Caribou Coffee...had a great manager until some greasy recently-fired jerk got him fired for a non-existant sexual harassment charge. Nice manager got fired, jerk got rehired, most of rest of staff quit in protest, and we no longer go to that Caribou

i think some of them were hired to work on base. either that or every single scooter there is just really loud.

and yeah i can see A having an advantage.
girls who can hold their own like that are very popular

but for the US stories no... i highly doubt the people pressing false charges will get hurt by their hatred.

and it's even worse in the military. family advocacy can be good if they're fighting a real case but they too get caught up in the "false charge" game and to get them to believe the "victim" is lying... is somewhat rare.

an old master chief told us once about a man who told his daughter "no you can't go to concert x, it's on a school night". she was furious and called family advocacy and claimed he was abusing her (molesting too i think).

yes she destroyed her father's career. she eventually fessed up to Family Advocacy but they said "You're lying to protect him now." So yeah, father's military career still down the shitter because she wanted to hurt him for telling her "no".

One could hope but sadly no. In CA the laws around licensed child care make it so that parents can file any report without retribution even if it is false. We had to allow the child to continue in the program after everything settled down. The police gave her a warning about false reports but since the mom believed it they let her off with just a warning. I thought the Mom might want the girl out of the center after but she was state funded and the waiting list to transfer to another site was about 2-3 years at that time.

People who falsely claim child molestation make me sick. I hope there's a special place in hell reserved for such people.

That is a heinous thing to do to a child, and is rightly punished severely.
