  • Crack boom!

So, about a month ago a tree next to our parking lot got struck by lightning. This caused a myriad of server and network issues for us (mostly due to the EMP burst frying a bunch of equipment.)

Anyway, our maintenance manager has been trying to find a service to take the three down (and money to pay for one, as the budget it stretched rather thin.)

Part of the problem resolved itself today when the upper 1/3 of the tree, where the lightning struck, toppled down. Into the guest parking lot. Then the piece of tree flipped lengthwise, so it took out part of the pool fence and the side of a guest's car on the opposite side of the lot.

On the bright side, despite the fact that people were in the parking lot, no one was hit by the tree or associated bits, so we only have to deal with property damage. Oh, and I had a perfect view of the whole thing from the window next to my desk, which looks out over the pool and guest parking lot at the tree in question.

On the even brighter side, it was only the top 1/3 of the tree. Had it been the whole thing, it would have hit the building that I'm in. As well as taking out the pool and hot tub. So, no major damage that we're aware of besides a chunk of fence, some minor auto body work, and the cost of removing the debris.

If you can't be good, be lucky!

Ouch, I feel sorry for the poor guest with the crunched car. It's also going to be an insurance nightmare, since people knew about the damage, but hadn't done anything yet.
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

That's Corporate logic. But it's not a problem now, so ti can wait and save us some money, until we get sued.
