  • I'm Putting in my Two Weeks today....((long))

...It's been a long time coming. I keep trying to talk myself out of it, and have succeeded for this past 6 months, but this last week I have come home every day in tears. Been so stressed my stomach problems are acting up again, and had to literally bite my tongue on several occasions to stop from snapping at a customer or coworker.

For the past two days the Beau and I have been talking it over. I don't have a new job lined up and that sucks. But he assures me he makes enough at his job to cover our expenses for a while while I look... no more "fun money" though. But my health is more important that money.

As I said... it's been a long time coming. A little corporate meddling here and there, Psycho Bitch being her usual self, my supervisors being incompetent and trying to pawn THEIR work or the stock teams work off on us. But the thing that drove it home was "new policies"

not sure if it was corporate or just district or just "Stephanie" our new management bitch. But just in time for: Dress season, Holiday Season, Back to school Season, OMG ITS COLD NEED WARM CLOTHES Season, AND winter break season.... they have down sized my fitting room.

First things first. We had two bars on the back wall... one was for apparel holds, and one was for re-ticketing. This system works very nicely... however as an attempt to make us cut down on re-ticketing they have yanked one bar... so now one is shared for both. ((these bars are roughly 5 feet long)) Now if this was February this would be no big deal.... but it's not. It is the time when shopping season EXPLODES. the time of year when we get 5X the amount of holds and re-ticketing... there will be NO room on that bar come Thanksgiving.

Second. We have (for the past two years) never held anything but apparel. No shoes, no home stuff, no purses, no toys. And there was a good reason behind this... "The Fitting room filled up with CRAP" I remember I saw it... I was there when they went to "Apparel Only" ....but lovely Ms. "Stephanie" through a fit and MADE us change it back...Just in time for Christmas. and what's more she gave us a little 4x2 bin to put it all in...... yeah right lady.

Third. As long as I have been there we have never allowed people to open packaged shirts in the store. Not many places that I've been to do. We have a woven shirt section, many of the shirts have the sizes... we point people there. Find the size... then buy the package. Psycho Bitch was the FIRMEST supporter of this rule... till last week... now OMG WE CANT SAY NO TO A CUSTOMER LET THEM DO WHATEVER THEY WANT..... the re-ticketing rack has 10 packaged shirts hanging on it with their plastic stuck to the hanger. I'll be damned if I am going to spend 15-20 min repackaging those damn shirts. Oh I can, and I can make it look like it was never opened. But you put me in the fitting room with people coming in and out with 8 items of clothes every 3 seconds.. .I don't have time for that shit.

But I think the real kicker in all this was the racks. You see, last night as stared at the bulging full racks and I watched the pile grow from mid thigh to almost my sternum... all the while management was chanting "we'll get you someone to run your racks" I suddenly remembered all the Holiday Seasons past. ((this would be my third Christmas.)) Allow me to tell you the tale.

Christmas 1: Around October we had 5 Racks in the fitting room. 3 for Woman's, Juniors, Kids, and dresses. and 2 for Mens. End of October creeps up and they decide to take 1 Woman's rack and one Men's. we were already struggling to keep up, and every fitting room worker said "Are you crazy! This is not going to work well" .... and management said "OH don't worry, we are getting LOTS of new people! You'll always have someone to run your racks!" and indeed we did higher lots of new people... but we were always bear-minimum staffed.... and all of them got put on register.... and the piles grew to epic proportions. And management couldn't figure out WHY!

Christmas 2. They decide to down grade to 1 Woman's rack, 1 Junior/dress rack, and 1 mens rack. We all say "Are you crazy! This is not going to work well" .... and management said "OH don't worry, we are getting LOTS of new people! You'll always have someone to run your racks!" and indeed we did higher lots of new people... but we were always bear-minimum staffed.... and all of them got put on register.... and the piles grew to epic proportions ((as in 18 shopping carts snaked up and down toys that took 2 over-nighters to put away)). And management couldn't figure out WHY! (( you see a pattern yet))

This year. We had 4 racks. 1 Woman's , 1 Juniors, 1 Mens, and a half sized Dress rack. They took the dress rack and combined it with Juniors AGAIN. And RED said "Are you kidding! This didn't work last year, we need MORE racks not less." and once again I was told "OH don't worry, we are getting LOTS of new people! You'll always have someone to run your racks!" ...and that did it...one more empty promise.

I really like my job. I actually ENJOY it. I give my very best everyday, and when I CANT do my job because of someone's incompetence it really stresses me out. I can't even make myself WANT to stick around "just in case" they fix it this year. I can NOT handle that level of stress this year... not with how frazzled I already feel. If I had to deal with one more Black Friday like last year... I would kills someone.

...so I am leaving while I still like my job, and while there is still good blood between me, management and my Coworkers... cause I can guarantee if I stay past November there won't be anymore.

*Sigh* wish me luck with the job hunting thing.

Best of luck. And yeah, your health is important. Good for Beau to support your decision.

I agree with Teskeria. And with your track record and experience you could get hired on for the holidays at another retail while you look for a perm. job. We believe in you, Red.
