  • A dept. reserved entire garage last Friday but only had 15 tokens

The reserved event was this past Friday. The dept. sponsoring the event reserved the entire garage, but only had 15 tokens for the vendors who will be arriving for the event. The event benefitted the university staff & faculty. So on the Outlook calendar there was a message along with the number of reserved spots, the name of the reserved event, the time the event began & when it ended that the dept. only had 15 tokens & that the remaining 35 vendors who will be arriving for the event had to pay for their own token. When the dept. purchases the tokens, they are only charged $1.00 per token. When the guest has to pay for their token, they are charged the full price of $5.00. I printed the calendar entry so I could have something to refer to.

So I kept a count of how many vendors arrived for the event, & when #16 vendor arrived, I read to them what was stated on the calendar entry & the fact that they were #16. I also told the remaining vendors who arrived this information.

Some of the vendors were shocked. Some of the vendors were annoyed. Some of the vendors said it was ok.

I told them they could either pay at the Parking office (which makes the reservations) or at the vending machine.

Is the university trying to hang itself?!?!?! I mean making vendors pay for parking when they already more than likely had to pay for the event is almost extortion.

Some of the vendors were downright pissed. I mean seriously?? They were asked to come there. I bet a billing note will be added for the parking token. Hope they add a service fee too.

Besides, the driver isn't automatically the business owner. If I were delivering pizza (just an example) and was given very specific instructions to enter through the garage, I'd be extremely upset that my tip (hope I'd get one) would be subsidized to pay for parking at the demand of the customer.
