  • 'VIP passenger syndrome' in Polish government plane crash?

This is really horrible if it's what happened, but it's topical for this board.

Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president who died in a plane crash last week, had a history. In 2008 he was travelling in the presidential plane and demanded that Polish Air Force pilot Captain Grzegorz Pietuczak land in unsafe conditions. When the captain refused, Kaczynski tried to have him stripped of rank for insubordination. Instead, the Prime Minister intervened and Captain Pietuczak got a medal for carrying out his duty safely.

Given that the crash that killed Kaczynski happened on approach to a foggy airport after several failed attempts to land, people are wondering.

Well you know, speculation is ever newsworthy -- at least to some journalists.

Alegedly a Norwegian newspaper is reporting something similar - that the pilot ignored the air traffic controllers.

I have a link but it isn't in English (translated by someone on a different forum). I'm trying to find it in English or a translator.

You should see the discussion on this on another forum - conspiracy theories left and right.

With all that aside - a nation lost a large part of their government (which no nation should go though). I wouldn't be surprised if there were some serious changes (there's already been one - never again will this many high level politicians / dignitaries (sp?) be on the same plane.

I saw an article on this on ABC News this morning...the first two comments went:

              "inside job?"

"well, I see the conspiracy nuts are up this morning."

I find 99% of the time you can blame stupidity what conspiracy theorists will believe. Governments tend to be dumb in how they handle things.

Which they never should have done. There's a reason why some countries won't have the highest and second highest people in office in the same room, and while the President and Prime Minister weren't together they should not have all been on the same plane for the very reason.

That should've been the policy to begin with.
