  • Idiot valet parking customer (long-ish)

This could probably go under "Road Kill", but I figured it fit better here.

The wife and I stayed at a hotel for a convention last night in Chicago. Because it's in downtown Chicago, the hotel provides valet parking. As we were leaving today, I was sitting in the driver's seat of our car, waiting to pull into the drive in front of the hotel to exit onto the road. A Cadillac was parked next to us, with a driver, probably about 70 years old. There's quite a few cars and taxis pulling in and out.

Anyway, he suddenly starts to back up, and there's a car right behind him! One of the valets starts to wave at him, but the guy isn't stopping. So the valet slaps the guy's car a couple of times, and he takes the hint. I even wave at the guy to stop, as he's looking at me.

So, the guy is sitting there, and the car behind him pulls out. Yet, there's still a taxi parked right in front of the hotel. Not directly behind this guy, but close enough where the Caddy driver can't turn out safely. So of course he backs right out, while the valet is trying to help someone else, and proceeds to back right into the taxi! Valet was like, "What the hell are you doing?" Guy gets out, and is obviously mad, waving his arms. Taxi driver is pissed, though fortunately neither car was really scratched.

Finally a manager comes out, and they have the taxi driver back up so this old bastard can get out of there before he runs someone over or bangs up another car. Just unbelievable how careless this guy was in his expensive Cadillac.

Yeah, it's like he was adamant about backing up, regardless of who or what may have been in the way.
