  • ..and so a dream slowly dies....

    Hello all~

Ive been MIA for a little. Ive been here just busy and somewhat on a brain vacation. Anywho, a while back I shared how we were trying to move to Florida. We got our ducks lined up for the most part. Plans were laid, dreams were dreamt. I started the process of transferring my RN license down there ( & $300 dollars later). I began looking for jobs, houses, schools etc.

Its just not happening. We were very much trying to sell without a real estate agent. I know they have to make a living too, but we didnt want to share the meager profit from the sale of our home.

Had LOTS of interest in the house, I had people coming out of my ears who wanted to come see the house and talk to me about purchasing. I had put ads in the classifieds of the paper and @ my job, not to mention CraigsList *cough cough*. But every single person that got "serious" about the house wanted to rent. What part of FOR SALE was not understood?

Anywho, the beginning of May comes and I sit down hubby and give us 2 options. We can move to FL and rent the house (which I didnt wanna do), and if that happened we would have to move in with my In-laws. Or we could enlist with a Real Estate agent and still not have a guarantee that it would be sold. With it being May already, we needed a guarantee and soon. So, we decided to stay.

Its bittersweet for me. I wanted to move, to experience a change but i LOVE the city I live in now. My husband is actually happy we decide to stay, as is my son. The only upset one was my 5 yr old daughter but i think it was b/c she thought she'd be able to go swimming everyday for the rest of her life.

    And so..here i am.

Well the bright side is that you do love where you are, so it's not a total loss.

Still it sucks you aren't able to move to Florida like you planned.

I'm sorry about that, Amina. On the bright side everyone is happy and hey, soon I'll be somewhere by your neck of the woods if you're by upstate NY!

It's not dead yet! Think of retirement! When your kids want the house you're in now! Then your old bones can rest in the sun.
Also, hurricanes. And Fark has the Florida tag for a reason, and not just because Drew thinks Florida is weird. Everyone else does too.
At least you aren't crying every night because you hate PA so so much with the fury of a million suns.
        ... I don't, I'm actually neutral to the state,

TBK is right--not dead...delayed maybe but not dead. There are a couple of options: 1) find a better real estate agent (can they really do any worse than you have been doing?) or 2) find a property manager and rent you Pennsylvania house, 'til you get a serious purchase offer (the good ones will all but complete your Schedule E for you).
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

The housing market is a bear right now. People were asking to rent because even people with excellent credit can't get financing.

Many serious sellers are turning to things like rent to own contracts. If I move any time in the next couple of years, it is probably how I will have to sell my house, as I don't see the market getting any better anytime soon.

Sorry your plans didn't work out, glad you're happy where you are

Yeah, I guess a better thing to say is its just stalled for now. It doesnt help that at this moment there are 3 houses within a 1 block radius that are for sale at greatly reduced prices...so we wouldnt have gotten what we wanted for the house anyways. :/

And with the price of gas what it is and pretty much having to drive everywhere, we figured maybe this was just better to stay here. On the upside, id like to REALLY do some new things around the house like..get Central Air.. and get a new bedroom set ive been wanting.

Which will increase the value/saleability of your house! (because it is nice and awesome to live in, natch.)

Some people also rent houses out... so that they can use the money for their mortgage payments.
