  • What do you think of work at home ops?

Yes, I know. If they ask for money, don't apply. But do you think this is a good idea? Being a telecommuter admin assist sounds pretty good right now.

I need out of here, and I need a break. Trying to find another job, but its not been easy. Expanding into this might be exactly whats needed, but I don't want to make a massive mistake in doing it. So I'd really like to know what you think.

I am working at a work at home company. I did have to make a payment of $40 toward the background check and drug test. (after the initial interview, before the final). The payment was refundable if you passed both but were not hired. It helped that I knew someone who's uncle worked for the same company. If you'd like I can pm you the name in case it is one you are considering. The one I work for has a few options. Full time, part time and jump on. Jump on is what it sounds like. If the program you are trained for needs more people, you can get permission to jump on for an hour or two or eight ect.

Working at home can be valuable, if you're able to devote blocks of solid time to it. The trick is to be the right personality, and to be able to stay focussed and devote those blocks of time.

I've done it. (Writing my book). I loved it. But it's not for everyone.

        1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Sorry was working. I actually enjoy it. I don't go stir crazy easily. You do have to make sure people wont knock at your door, and you have to be sure you will be able to have quiet during work hours (no screaming kids, pets ect), but normal sounds like cutting grass aren't an issue. You also have to have a landline with a corded headset. no cordless or cell phones for work. I work 1 pm - 10 pm et, with an hour for lunch. If my daughter isn't home her cats will quietly lie on my bed (office is in bedroom. quietest room in house), otherwise I close them out as they want to be nearer her.

I've been interested in work @ home jobs.. how much do they usually pay? What kind of skills are they looking for?

I definitely have the quiet environment for the job.

If you would consider PMing me the info also I would be seriously grateful. Since gimping out, I have not been able to find a job that will let me 100% telecommute from the start

What actually majorly sucks is that I am on a couple of job boards, it specifically states in my CV that I am handicapped and need to telecommute, and I still get calls and emails for non telecommute positions.

I'd really like to work say 9 am until my husband gets home. I don't want to get up at 6 am anymore because I'm always exhausted.

I'm sick to death of aggravating managers, and of dealing directly with customers (or in my case guests) all day. Right now, I'm attached to a phone all day. Its seriously driving me batty. I'd love to just sit here and do paperwork all day without being constantly disturbed by other people like my stupid Res Manager (who asked me "Why do you wear that sweater all the time? Is it because you're cold or is it a comfort thing?" the other day. How the hell was that appropriate to ask someone? Rude).

I'm so burned out it isn't even funny. I feel like going off on someone all the time. I desperately need a break but can't afford to take one. And I just got back from a 9 day vacation. I didn't even get an hour after coming back to work before it all started again when I found out that we STILL hadn't gotten paid long after we were supposed to have been.

I need to find something else before I get myself fired by screaming at them all. And thats even though today I've relatively left alone by everyone and the phones are quiet. I think I'm so wound up now that I never relax once I come in the door.

One question: just why the heck would you need a drug test to work from home? Whose safety are you endangering?

(Mind you, if it is a matter of public safety, then there is sufficient reason to not take the chance - but at home?)

Captain, the particular program I am working gives me access to peoples credit card numbers. You dont want a junkie to be able to access that type of info. You cant guarantee that other types wont, but they have to play the odds.

I love working at home. I still do it with my second job and I've done it before with technical writing/editing projects and also a temp job where I did most of the work at home and then had to take documents to and from the Clerk of the Court's office. I really wish I fit the criteria for working at home for the call center...they encourage it, but I don't have a quiet/private place to work (hubby works at home too) nor do I have wired internet access in any room that might possibly be quiet enough. Blargh.

I think I'd rather be doing the technical writing/editing plus the documents for the Court. I already work the phones at my job. I need off the phone. I don't like the telephone at the best of times. Most of all, I need away from the aggravating managers.

Same here!! Gah! At least I'm better about being able to make outgoing calls on my own behalf (or even at work) but for some reason the phone ringing makes my heart jump. Great candidate for a call center, aren't I?
