  • Just need to rant about closing food

Food closing shift gets the raw end of the deal. If we get out late, it's bad. If I shut down a machine kind of early (because I try to get as much done as possible while I have the mid-shift guy), a manager who's on a break is asking said coworker about said machine being down. I still had the food, just not visible. She shouldn't even be asking him; she's hourly. I am sick of straw wrappers EVERYWHERE but the trash, not to mention trash from stores in the mall on my tables. I'm resenting the customers for interrupting me, and that's not fair to them. They just want a soda. I've tried to change my availability to mornings on weekends, but it was denied. I guess I'll have to do a schedule swap every week. I just know management will get annoyed at that, though. I'm just sick of racing against the clock, only to get out late because it just. doesn't. stop. all. night.

And some of my co-workers wonder why I don't like closing any more. Because I got sick and tired of having to try to get everything done before we had to punch out. Now that I'm on either mornings or mid-shift, there's no worry about it.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

It's been that way in every restaurant I've ever worked in.

That is why I like the way closing shifts here work (I'm run the recreation area at a resort not a restaurant but I'm still responsible for a substantial amount of closing work), I don't get to leave until everything is all clean and good to go but I'm only scheduled for 36 hours a week (anything over 32 counts as full time so I still get full benefits) and my boss is perfectly fine with me picking up a little extra time as long as I don't go over 40 so if things are busy I don't have to go crazy trying to get everything done at an impossibly fast pace (and people actually get kicked out of the building when we close so I'm almost never here too late).
