  • Let's speculate on future SC behaviour

So Canada's penny is going byebye. the policy will apparently be if you have pennies use them other wise .01 and .02 become .00 and .03 .04 become .05 and so on and you just round off like that.

Discussion of getting rid of the penny can just go ahead and go to fratching. what we can discuss is what the SCs are going to do.

    1. lie about having pennies when the total is ending in 1 or 2
    2. demand multiple transactions to have each transaction end in 1 or 2.

those are my guesses but lets' see what you've got.

Two other huge annoyances will be:

    1) Every customer offering up their opinions and political views regarding the decision. And I do mean every. single. customer. Or at least the ones paying cash.

    2) Customers getting pissed when you eventually won't take pennies anymore. Because of course it's all your fault and you're meeeeaaaaannnn.
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

      3. Heads are going to explode when prices are .06, .07, .08, and .09 because maths is hard.

        4. People complaining for days to everyone, that if they'd used their credit card, they would have saved $0.02 because it wouldn't have been rounded up.

          5. Complaining that it is not fair because I don't have a debit/credit card and have to pay more half the time. Even though you get to pay less the other half.

the ideal solution would be to have retailers set prices so that everything works out exactly to a multiple of .05 after taxes, then there would be no need for rounding.

People screaming, "You have to take them! It's illegal not to!"

Hey, I didn't say it would make any sense...

Australia went through this 20 years ago. I don't remember sighting any SC have a complain at the time but I wasn't working retail then.
The joke at the time was the person driving up to the petrol pump putting in 2 cents of fuel and getting it rounded down to nothing. They then go back to the pump put in another 2 cents and get it rounded down. They keep going to they throw you out of the place but they get free petrol. Even at the prices twenty years ago it still amounted to very little fuel for a lot of effort.

I still have a Canadian one-dollar bill from the 80's. My dad used to date a woman whose family was from there, and we went to visit them ages ago.

Uh Oh! Pennies in Canada are going out of style! Which means it'll be a reason for every customer in Canada to collect all their pennies and try to pass them off at the stores all at once, then get pissed because they will no longer be accepted!

Looking forward to future stories of shrieking hellions going, "WHY won't you accept my pennies? I'll never shop here again! WAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"

Ditto here ... I may also have a $2 bill stashed somewhere.

I can see SCs bringing in gallon-jars-full of pennies once they actually pass out of mortal ken, so to speak, and demand that somebody else count 'em because there's obviously a lot of money there but they don't have time to roll and count the things ...

Try being a pizza delivery driver and actually HAVE someone try and pay for a $25 order with nothing BUT a McDonalds Supersized cup full of pennies.

Yes that has happen more than once.

what is just a s bad is people who hand you a FULL ziploc bag full of nothing but coins for a $29 order. then they get all angry that I as the driver want to stand there and actually COUNT it all in front of them. (sorry I got shorted enough times on handfulls of change that I WILL count it ALL)
I'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.
