  • America's Got Talent, Season 7

So, I'm watching the fist audition show, and here are my views so far:

Earth Harp: Thought before I heard it that, if this thing works, it is going to be astounding. I was wrong. It was BEYOND astounding. The only flaw was that we didn't hear more of it. Truly one of the most amazing things I have had the privilege of witnessing in my life.

Father and daughter singing duo: Cute, but not a million dollar act. I think the panel got snowed by the cute factor, rather than the actual ability. Sorry, but I would vote no on them.

The stripping magician: Thank you for putting my profession back about 30 years, if not further. Asshole.

Crossbow act: I was screaming at my tv, "Why is HE wearing the protective vest, and not HER?" Thank you, Howie, for finally being the one with enough sense to ask this question!

Clogging dance squad ("Elements"): expected nothing from them, and was DEAD WRONG. Damn impressive, tight moves, should be interesting to see where they go from here.

Free form rapper: Amusing, but do the judges REALLY think he made that all up on the spot? And are they really going to take his word for it? Even if he did, entertaining, but not a million dollar act. He won't advance again.

Light Wire Theater: Impressive, but thought iLuminate from last season was a better combination of innovative dance and innovate technology. This is more tech than art, in my opinion, and despite what Howie thinks, I think iLuminate kicks these guys' asses. That being said, I still agree with the vote to send these guys on. They are good...I've just seen better is all.

Simply Sergio: I wanted to beat him with a baseball bat. Or a hockey stick. I'm flexible. But while I think the only person more deluded about Sergio than Sergio is Sergio's wife, even I have to admit his "God Bless America" was...decent. Sharon's right...he should pursue opera. Preferably in a city far away from me, and that I'll never be in. Ever. For any reason.

Maurice and Shanice: Okay, another father daughter duo. Cute. And they seem to actually be better musicians than the early cutesy act. And they're doing "You've Got a Friend." Aww, even cuter. And Maurice started singing, and I'm thinking, okay, this guy can sing pretty well. And then Shanice opened her mouth and sang. And my jaw hit the floor like an anvil in a Roadrunner cartoon. KERPLUNK! Seriously, where did that girl get those pipes?!? How does a girl that young with such a speaking voice have a singing voice that freakin' low, that freakin' powerful, and that freakin' awesome? I was floored. And while I think her Dad is good enough and the act works, I think this girl would just slay the world as a solo act. Good LORD she can sing!

For the record, I rewound my DVR to rewatch exactly two acts: Maurice & Shanice, and the Earth Harp.

So....what did you think, of these acts or others? Chime in, kids.....the talent show has begun!

I had a quick look at the dance group on YOutube.

      Damn, they're good.

I already posted a few acts from this year's AUSTRALIA's Got Talent that I think will go far in Check It Out, but I'll post two more here:

        oh damn that was tonight?

I was at the taping when they were doing the auditions in San Francisco. While I don't think I'll be paying much attention to this season, would like to see that episode, just so I can see how they 'put' it all together for television.

I'll have to try to find the crossbow act. And I think you can guess why.

I would have been impressed with the crossbow act if he had not been using a scope.

Ok, found a clip on youtube. Not bad. I could only find a shortened version, so I only saw two shots. I can do the balloon shot without a scope. The paper, not so much, but I haven't tried, either. Go watch Guy Tell if you want a really good crossbowman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QBJxIWVIt4

I pretty much agree with Jester. Although I have to add I could have done without the guy with skewers.... I don't even wanna try to think what he'd have to do to ramp things up as the contest progressed!

Also, I find the acts with a lot of people doing different things a bit hard to follow (i.e. bike jumpers) ... maybe seeing them live might make it easier.

It doesn't, really. I've been to a couple of shows (bmx & skateboarding), and with everything going on, it's hard to really keep track of it all. But it's a lot more fun and impressive in person than on TV.

Ok currently watching this..and I won't give any spoilers..but I agree with Howie's reaction to the first act.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

LOVED Earth Harp. That was...wow. That's an experience.

Elements Dance Crew: Great adaptation of a dance style. It's great seeing a group that says they've enhanced a dance actually do it.

As for the rapper....um...yeah. He made it up. Right.

The father and daughter: Cute, Kidz Bop material, but I wouldn't see a show with them.

Crossbow guy: Intense, and I have a lot of respect for the assistant. But I have to agree with the scope thing.

Loyalty Dance Crew: Nice but I liked Elements better.

Simply Sergio: Why didn't he just start with God Bless America? Or sing like that initially? The hell.

Maurice and Shanice: I'm with Jester. Dear Lord, that girl can sing. Dad's good backup though. Wow. They're gonna go far in this one.

I was not that big on the first father/daughter duo..not that good (imo) and the kid was too cute..if that makes sense.

Canada's Got Talent ended just before AGT started. Our finals had 2 Beat - boxers, a rapper, 2 opera singers, 1 Bollywood Dance group, a Chinese acrobat, a rock band, a country singer, a kid dancer (who put on a great performance in the finals IMO), a dance trio and another dance group. It was a good mix IMO, and all of the groups did really good. I was impressed that 2 of the finalists (one of which was Top 3) were from my region, despite my region only getting a 45 minute audition show, compared to the Hour+ the rest of the regions got. Our judges were fantastic; Stephan Moccio (a muscian), Martin Short, Measha Brueggergosman (opera singer) and Measha Brueggergosman's hair. (Yes her hair was its own judge. ). We only had Semifinals and finals, so each act only performed 3 times in total across the series.

Anyways, on to the AGT show. I agree with most of what others have said. The Earth Harp was incredible and it'll be a challenger in the finals. The first Father and Daughter act I missed most of it, but I could hear the cute overload from the kitchen and it didn't sound all that great to begin with.

Elements Dance Crew has a lot going for it. Fantastic act, and their look is very memorable too which will go well for them. I'm looking forward to them again.

Sergio, he'll probably be a cut in Vegas; if he does act again, hopefully they'll find some Opera (Spanish Opera probably would work best) for him to do.

Lights crew, were decent. Nowhere near as good as iLuminate, but they should do well going forward, especially if they can tighten up their movements more.

The crossbow act was good, but standard fare for the most part. It may get another round but should be an easy cut going forward.

Maurice and Shanice did really well, and should be good contenders going forward.

All in all, a nice solid start to the new season, and I'm liking Howard as a judge too.

I loved the Earthharp, that guy better get in the finals.

Maurice and Shanice will definitely get far in this season. I'll be shocked if they get dropped.

One performance that irked me (besides the other fails) was the bird lady performance, I was at first expecting those birds sing the song with her. That was disappointing and I will laugh if Howie tries to bring her back.
