  • And this is why I take notes.

So 2 weeks ago I was at Really Big Craft Show. Still typing up the shenanigans from that, *sigh*.

One of my fellow vendors came by to visit during the show and really liked my stuff. She asked if I could custom make a pillowcase set and a stocking for her kids. I said yes, and wrote down what she would like.

When I got home after the show was over, I emailed her to confirm exactly what she wanted and told her I was going to go buy supplies. (It's a smallish order and I have several more shows with her over the next couple of months)

I went out Thursday and bought fabric for her orders, and sent her an email saying that I picked up the supplies, and reminding her of the total and the completion date.

She responds that oh no, she really didn't want all that stuff, she just wanted one pillowcase. WTF? Then why didn't you say something when I told you I was going to pick up supplies and confirmed the order?

So now I have 2 pillowcases that I have to resell and of course the stocking takes less fabric and that's the pillowcase she said she wanted. So I have to go out and buy more of that fabric.

And she makes handmade stuff...so she know I have to pay for materials and stuff. *eyetwitch*

Edit: ROFL! Was venting in a local vendor group about it and I already sold not just the one stocking, but both of them. :P

Can't remember who we discussed this with before but I'm just going to say "you need order forms with client signatures!" (and deposits too). To many people are flaky these days.

Glad you sold them on though.
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

i mean yeah - you confirmed with her and now she changed her mind?

why couldn't she have said anything before hand?

if anything, yeah, this is why the roller derby team i work with is big on contracts. they've already had one venue pull an event from right under their feet by double-booking events, cos we didn't have a contract for it.

Reason I didn't have her pay a deposit was because we were going to do a trade. She's a fellow crafter who makes hair bows.

I mean if she had said "Hold on I changed my mind" then that would be okay. But to tell me "You got my order wrong!" When I have emails backing me up, oh no we're not playing that.

My dad worked in CAD, and with one company he was with any project his team worked on he kept detailed notes on any change orders to the design of whatever the project was for. One time a guy came in to review the work went crazy over a changed and asked my dad why they did that. So he pulled out his handy notebook of detailed change order notes, and found the change order for that part. I think we can all see where this is going. Angry guy had made the order and then forgot he did it.
