So....more incompetence from the Larry, Darryl and Darryl outfit that does snowplowing for the swamp.
There's been a couple snowfalls the past couple weeks. The contractors are slow to show up and plow or salt the parking lot, so it's generally an icy, snow-covered mess. Trucks are getting stuck spinning their wheels at our receiving docks with alarming regularity. The snowplow service can't even plow or put down salt on the empty docks. Truck drivers are complaining; corporate's response was to send down a snippy e-mail reminding us that "it's the responsibility of store personnel to make sure the receiving docks are in safe winter driving condition.
Shit, Monday I had to go outside to do some work with the forklift and spent half an hour getting stuck and sliding around. Then I got smart. I went inside and got a cinder block and stuck that on the back of the forklift for added traction.
Yesterday, store manager inspected the empty truck dock--the one yesterday's truck was eventually dropped in. He called the snowplow service to come clear it. They never showed up. Unsurprisingly, the truck driver was slipping and sliding trying to back the trailer against the bumpers. For a while there, I thought he might crash into the side of the building.
Then he got stuck trying to take away the other trailer.
Finally, this morning, somebody from the service showed up. A guy in a clapped-out, red, 35-to-40-year old Jeep pickup with a battered plow on the front. He went roaring through the lot removing snow.
Then later a front end loader and a salt truck showed up.
As it is snowing again tonight and tomorrow, I expect further problems. At least I don't have to go shovel out emergency exits--hopefully.
