  • Stupid customer spits in employee's face

This is a story from a friend when he worked at a retail store. A customer came into the store and he greeted him with a big smile.
Employee: Hi, welcome to (store's name)
    Customer: Fuck you.
The customer then proceeded to spit in the employee's face and walked off, while the employee clenched his fist and held back, burning and seething with anger. Nobody knows why the customer did what he did. So the customer got away with this bullshit, right? Wrong!
The President of the company was there and had seen what happened, and gave the employee a $200 bonus Now there is a manager who knows how to treat his employees right. Not only that, but the customer was forced to leave the store
I do believe this can be classified as assault and that someone can be arrested for this. I can't believe any customer would be so fucking stupid to do something like that to any employee. How many of you would've not walked away? Myself, I don't know what I'd do, but I'd certainly do everything to get the guy thrown out.

    Kudos to the president.
But yeah, thats an assault charge there. What if the prick had one of those really nasty diseases. And yeah.. sadly it has happened a few times in the past.

Wow, good for the company president. But yeah, I would've filed an assault charge as well.

Sadly, this was far from unknown when I worked at the city council car parking department.

When someone got told that no, we couldn't just waive their parking ticket that instant on their say-so, or that a piece of paper with an address handwritten on it wasn't proof of residency for a permit, they tended to get nasty. And while we did have a steel security screen that would fly up at the touch of a button, that's not much comfort when the saliva is already dripping down your face.

What the manager used to do in these cases was to ban the person from the premises - being the council, we still had to deal with them, but they would be told that all further communication would have to be done by post, they couldn't enter the office any more.

You are hereby charged with assault, and sentenced to an ass kicking. Meet Mr. Bat.

I'm not so sure. I think the pres was more motivated by what was better for the company. More likely by accepting the bonus the employee basically gave up any rights to sue the store for anything else if he has any health problems later on.

In my opinion, any customer who threatens any employee should be asked to leave the store right away, even if it seems like an empty threat, because hey, you never take it serious until it actually happens. But you as the customer forfeit any and all rights to any kind of customer service once you decide to threaten someone. Of course, they won't do it in front of a manager, and even if they did, the manager would not kick them out, because they're more concerned about making a dollar than the safety of their employees.

I have to agree with you. I wouldn't want the $200. I'd want an assault charge and the store to pay any medical bills I incur for any tests and treatment.

I would've been over the counter the second that saliva started flying. Words are just that, but physical assault? AW HELLLLL NAW.

That customer would be in jail for assault. And in severe pain. "Don't know what to tell you officer, he tripped and fell. You know how it is, right?"

                        This.

The only way this could ever be polite is if you're on Arrakeen - and even then it's not in the face.

A customer spit in my face once after I told him everything in the floral dept wasn't on sale and I couldn't give him a particular plant at the sale price of another particular plant.

He went to the store director and complained. The store director then sent my co-worker to meet the ass in the floral dept and told her to give him anything he wanted and to apologize for my behavior. I was then called into the store director's office for a 'talking to.'

That was shortly after I started working at the Hellhole. I knew at that moment just how my employer viewed me and everyone else who works there.

I agree with that. You'd think he would have stepped in at any time to tell the guy off or something.

I agree, but instead of being asked, they get told to leave. The customer doesn't deserve to be asked to get out.

Sadly, that same thing would probably happen where I work. Everyone's so afraid of standing up for themselves and ruining the image of "great customer service" that they'd automatically side with the customer, no questions asked.

Customer would be escorted outside, FORCEFULLY, by myself after doing that. And I'd 'Al Bundy' the individual - as in, rap his/her head, HARD, against the door frame on the way out. Perhaps hard enough to knock out a tooth or two.

Fines, jail time, or loss of job DOES NOT MATTER. I do NOT tolerate that shit, EVER.
