Steve Jobs resigns from Apple due to health issues.

Hopefully this won't impact the company too badly.

Sounds like he's in bad shape. Poor guy.

Yeah. They said the cancer has likely re-emerged. Hopefully the successor will have the skills and the moxie to run the company as good as Steve Jobs did.

According to one article i read, the person taking over for him has been CEO in all but name since January due to Jobs' health. I suspect he's only stayed this long to make sure he picked the right successor, so other than needing a good spokesman, the company should be fine.

Yeah, and start a new assignment as an Apple Rep for Best Buy today. First words out of my mouth when I first saw this:

It's far too late to add Steve Jobs to my dead pool for the year. I suspect if he's walking away, he hasn't got much longer to live.

It will be interesting to see what direction Apple goes in with him not handling things day-to-day.

yeah, technically Jobs stood down since January, it's just that it's been made official.

As for impact, stock wise Apple will hurt for a while as Job's status has been tied to Apple stock for a while. Company wise it's still very strong with new stores opening and new stations in electronics stores being manned with apple employees more than ever.
