working from a bed, with the purse 11 stories down

A woman called the library asking for Kim. Since there are more than 100 people in this building, and I havn't memorized everyone's name, I have no clue who she is talking about. She told me her problem, which involved books placed on hold but not at her library. I told her I can check her account, if she can give me her card number.

SC: I don't have my card with me, I'm at work. Can you wait a minute for me to go get it?
Me: Where is it?
SC: In my car, and the parking garage is 11 stories down.
me: Can you call back then?
SC: no, I am not calling back. I know you can look up my record with my name or phone number
me: sorry, I can't.
SC: YES you can! Kim did that before. I talked to her twice. Kim should be there. I just had back surgery and I'm bed-ridden. You have to work with me here.
me: I'm sorry, there are over 100 people who work here. Tell me the title of the first book and i'll look up the problem.
SC: well, I called her number, 5191.
Me: this is not that number. But give me the title of the first book and I'll see what is the problem.
SC: It's not a book, it's a book on disc.
Me: you mean an audio book. Ok, then, give me the title of the audiobook.
SC: *gives title of book* It's an audiobook.
me: ok, looks like all the copies are checked out, so when you placed it on hold, there wasn't a copy available.
SC: The audiobook was already at the X Library to be picked up but I wanted to pick it up at the Y library but it's not there yet.
Me: Let me connect you to X library to see if they still have your books.


Ok, she said she was at work, then she says she is bed-ridden. What, her job allows her to bring her bed? Maybe she's self-employed. But I still don't get why anyone would leave their purse in their car. Is her job/home not safe enough to keep her purse?

I would bet she never put the audiobook on hold either. But no one around here likes to take sucker bets.

I would have let her go down the 11 stories and just hung up. Oops! must have lost the connection.

<giggle snort> She was totally lying. I don't know why, but she was. I bet there is no Kim at all.

I bet there is no Kim at all.

I found out, there is a Kim, just happens that there are several Kims and without knowing exactly what "Kim" did for her, I can't connect her to the right Kim. So the Kim she talked to was in Circulation, and she had the right extention. But I don't know if this woman always calls our number to have us connect her with the extention, or dials the extention herself, and Kim was out and it rolled over to us.

I just found it funny how she could keep straight her story about how it would be difficult for her to get her library card.
