WTG both of you. I see so many co-workers struggling with student loans, it makes me happy with my degrees from a community college where I could afford to pay for the classes right out with no loans (only 1.5 years of loans from my university which took about 12 years to pay off).Quote Dalesys:

I have to admit as of the 1st of this month I am deliquent on my Student loans.
It makes me feel really bad but they can't track me from NZ and don't have my current address. As soon as I have the money together I will be sending it.I wasnt put on this earth to make you feel like a man ~ Mary Bertone

My BFF was told by her finacial advisor, "Forget the student loans. You will never get those paid off." Unfortunately, though, if you borrow from the US government, they can levy your bank accounts (as they can also with tax debt). Creditors who lend unsecured debt cannot do this. They can usually just garnish wages. This is why I'm hesitant to borrow money for school."Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably

BTW, I would recommend that your BFF find a new financial advisor and fast...blowing off debt is the worst bit of financial advise available.

I'm just launching myself into a new pile of student loans but it is college, not university. By the time I am out of school this should be my ONLY debt (have some small consumer debts that I am currently paying off) so I will be looking at getting rid of them as quickly as is possible -- anything short of living in my car!
It is far from my first go-round with student loans and like any debt they can take forever if you don't make efforts to pay more than the minimum.
I know there are people who have legitimate reasons for not paying student loans ... but I have to wonder how many of these now-pensioners did have the chance and just didn't do it ... we have problems with student loan defaulters here in Canada. I don't know whether they can garnishee your old age pension and I'd rather not find out first-hand.
