a few weeks ago I got myself a new skype number (skypein) to use for job hunting. I liked the number cos it was easy to remember.
i called it from my cell to verify that it was working and then set about using that as my contact number.
but a few nights ago i gave it a test call - mainly cos i hadn't heard a peep on that line since. i wanted to verify that i was giving out the right number.
"beep Beep BEEP. The number you have called is not in service"... wtf?
When I got home I verified that I was calling the right number. Yes.
I contacted skype and they claimed they called me and that it rang. (never saw evidence of their call tho). So I kept emailing them back stating that it's not working.
Then earlier today they called me and I answered. Yay... but... wait. my cell still won't call the number.
wtf?
So then I tried getting a google number, set that up and ... yay my skype rang... but the cell still can't call it.
this is really fucked up weird. Mom called and it worked. but her cell couldn't connect either. my bf's cell (different carrier) can't call it either
basically my new local skype number ... landlines and computers can call it.
cell phones cannot.
wtf?
Thankfully I have a workaround. google talk, kinda.
I still have my old skypein number and i was going to keep that one anyway because it's local to my family. And that one works for cell phones too. I've had it for 3 years.
So.. my google is now set up with a local number (well close enough at least for my job hunting). However instead of linking it to my cell, it's linked to the old skype.
So now I only have to pay skype for one phone number, instead of paying them for one working number and one half-working number. i'm just glad i only paid for 3 months on the new one.
meh. weird
