My best friend is back in the hospital. She's been in the hospital for a few days now. She has 3 infections and a concussion. The concussion is from passing out while vomiting and hitting her head on the stone floor. One of her infections is a word I've never heard before but its a infection/disease in the intestines that can be controlled with diet once they bring it down with antibiotics.

Not Crohn's disease or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)?
My best friend had (has?) it. At university she went to the hospital a couple of times because she was losing blood internally. It was eventually controlled with diet and medication. I believe she still takes the pills but no longer has to avoid certain foods.

Neither of those are an infection, though. I've had IBS all my life. It was the worst from about age 12 to my early 20s. Since then I rarely have an attack, although I have vastly changed my diet since then. I rarely eat anything fried, limit myself to one fried food per meal if I do, and limit my dairy intake. I also almost never eat fast food. My dad has IBS, too, and his didn't get better until his late 40s, so I'm glad I was able to get mine under control younger than him.Don't wanna; not gonna.

So best friend's doctor went on vacation and crazy bitch doctor took over. Best friend's blood pressure is normal, so best friend should go off her blood pressure medication being just one of her ideas. My best friend said "HELL WITH YOU!" and left the hospital since they had been talking about releasing her today anyways. I think if she has to be re-admitted she'll go to a different hospital while her doctor is on vacation.

The reason why is, that hospital has all her medical records, and nurses who've seen her before and know her. A new hospital would start everything over from scratch, which would be expensive and a waste of time, possibly delaying care.
If you have to go back to the hospital, you can always say, "I don't want Dr. So and So involved in my case while my primary doc is out of town. I want someone else, preferably from the same group (this is so her primary can be brought back into the loop when he/she gets back)."
I do this all the time when I visit my local ER. There's a PA there that I can't stand. I always ask if he's working. If he is, I tell the staff, "I don't want him to see me. I'll wait for one of the ER docs."They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

Quoth Akasa View PostSo if she goes back she can request a ER doc cover for her doctor as opposed to "that crazy bitch doctor"?
Just say no.
If that doesn't work, "GTFO."They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

I passed that info on.
While in the hospital the surgeon made a passing "Huh sounds like you have blah." and leaves. No other doctors mentioned it, no nurses mentioned it, so she didn't think much on it. She gets home and looks it up and its one of the top 10 rare and odd diseases. She does some research on it and finds she's textbook.Last edited by Akasa; 08-14-2011, 10:11 PM.
