That was odd. Just reading the title I was thinking of the oddest name that popped into my head, not even bothering to get to the image yet.

          The name? Kohlrabi.

Wondering about the etymology of that vegetable's name.

In Hebrew, "kohl-rabi" (קול־רבי) translates as "the voice of my master". Brings to mind a certain old painting of a dog and a gramophone.

(OK, I just cheated and looked on the Hebrew Wikipedia. Apparently it's German for "cabbage-turnip".)

Fun fact: Kohlrabi, cauliflower, cole-slaw, and kale all have the same root in the Latin word "caulis" which is translated to "cabbage."

Actually the Kohl part in the name is derived from the german word Kohl=cabbage.

                    The rabi part, dunno.

I grow it in my garden.
I peel the bulbous part and slice about 1/8 to 1/4" thick and either roast or steam.

You can also chop it kinda fine, cook it in a bit of chicken broth, season to taste and then puree the whole thing to make soup out of it. Maybe add a bit of half and half or cream.

Well, yeah, but where do you think the Germans got it?
