I'm not smiling because teasing someone you don't know isn't funny.

I don't think making a bad joke is rude, but getting all defensive and ordering the recipient of said bad joke to think it is funny IS rude.

It wouldn't have been rude if he'd just let it go and not made an issue of it.

Better to be single than with someone who's going to embarrass you in public.
Very true, and something I very recently dealt with.

Met a new girl a bit back. She came to my bar, and we hit it off, and we met up a couple times. They weren't dates, mind you. (At least I don't think she thought they were, and while I was hopeful, I wasn't delusional about what was going on). But I did want to pursue a relationship with her.

Notice the past tense in that last sentence.

See, while I still somewhat enjoy hanging out with her, I discovered a very annoying trait of hers. A couple of them, actually. She whines. A lot. Actually, I shouldn't say "whines," because that implies a very nasal, high-pitched complaining. This was just flat out complaining. About a lot of things. And she is cheap. And while I have no problem with someone being frugal, as many people are on budgets, especially in this town (which is not cheap), she is very vocally cheap. "How much is this?" "I'm not paying five bucks for that!" "Can you buy me a drink?" The last one to random guys.

Yeah, a nice enough girl, but if we were dating, she would drive me over the edge very, very quickly. And it's not just my opinion that she can get a bit annoying...a mutual female friend of ours agrees with my assessment.

So, yeah...not thrilled being single, but being single beats the hell out of dealing with THAT nonsense on a regular basis.

He responded with the I'm-just-teasing spiel, and that I should smile, etc..
I hate when people try to force me to smile. If you need to see someone smiling that bad, go to the circus and watch the clowns (though some clowns schtick isn't smiling...)

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

If they tell me to smile I give them the death glare. Always when I am having a bad day. And I am not and actress. I cannot fake it.
