  • Being a jerk will not get your cable on any quicker!

What an asshole I had yesterday. the customer basically had problems with his
cable box. So i went through all the steps to solve the problem. Nothing worked so the only LOGICAL step is to set up for the tech to come out. That's when the customer started bitching and he demanded a supervisor What the hell is the supervisor going to do? So then after a few minutes of bitching and moaning, i just found out that there is a confirmed outage in that area. He then demanded my operator ID which i gave although i wanted to decline and say, "sir, i did nothing wrong, i have no control over cable outages".

This guy really ruined my day with his bullshit. Blaming me for shit that I had NOTHING to do with. I don't care if he has had a bad day, if he is going to ask for my operator ID and go off blaming me to corporate, its freaking personal.

Probably upset cause he couldn't watch his porn.

You would think people would be upset over more important things like oh, the gas, electric, rent and mortgage bills not some stupid cable! Watch a damn dvd.

Won't corperate see that there was an outage?
My Dish goes out everytime it snows - I just call to double check there isn't an outage or something I've done to the tv (I'm hopeless with the remotes), but I'm sure they hear an earful from other people.

Gah! I'm almost the opposite. Round about Christmas/New Year out interwebs lost connection. I quick check using the neighbourhood open wifi point showed a known fault. My thought was give it a couple of days, it's not life threatening and it's bound to be low staffing.

Corporate might not notice the outage ... plus, you know the guy is going to lie and claim that the OP was rude anyway. Outage or no, corporate will blame the OP for being rude.

This is why I only lasted four months working for the cable TV industry. I've stated this before, I am in South Florida, so many out there are aware of Hurricane Wilma from 2005. Thank God, I was able to find myself another job, because people down this way are just ugly whenever they can't watch TV. DVD's are nice, but I always heard about how "I watched my four DVD's already and can't stand watching them any more!"

I also have kids and pretty much we watch the same on-demand shows more than once. I used to love the asswipes that would call in complaining, "When are you all going to change the on-demand programming? It's the same shit all the time!" Some would actually call upset because the network was showing a rerun of "How To Find Your Rectum" instead of "Sucky Customer: The Next Wave". How the hell would I have control over something like this?

They'd probably freak at the fact that I'll watch my favourite DVDs maybe 3 times in a row, then a couple more times the next day

SC's can't live without TV. I mean, it's not like they can read or have an intelligent conversation. I think that it's uncomfortable when original thoughts pop up into their heads, because it's such an unfamiliar sensation. They need the TV to tell them what to think and feel, and of course, when that's out, anger is the default emotion.

I like my friend's kid. She's not even double-digit age yet, and already plays Maul of America, Munchkin, Battletech, Mechwarrior, and Hero Quest. At one Mechwarrior game she made us all proud when she caused the other player to retreat his Atlus away from some menacing infantry, then said (in high-pitched little-girl voice), "Aw, did I make your mech run away?"

Needless to say, her dad spends a lot of time with her. We have high hopes for introducing her to D&D soon.

I met one of these! We had one of those xbox 360 displays in our store and this little boy had a group of army guys around him with their mouths hanging open. It was one of those war games and he was pulling shots that we've never seen! I made his father promise never to let him get a gun because this kid had skills!

As for the sc dont you know by now that your company has wizards that can magicly fix the box but you were just being mean! Damn people need to read a book!

Yay! A fellow South Floridian!! What part are you in? Boy do I remember Hurricane Wilma like it was yesterday.I went without power and cable for 11 days and no internet for almost a month. Whenever my cable goes on the blink, I have my own ways of entertaining myself: my gameboy, crocheting, books, the internet (if it's working) and "playtime" with my fiancé. Seriously, if the cable goes out, big deal. There's more important things to worry about than watching TV,but some people just can't get their priorities straight.

But seriously, I don't know why some people think they have to be rude to servicepeople. I do internal tech support, and some of the crap I have to deal with is amazing. I've been screamed at because repairs take too long. I've been interrupted multiple times as to why the network is down...while I'm attempting to *fix* it, etc. These same idiots can't understand that *they* are the reason the repair is taking so damn long. Leave me alone, and let me do my damn job! If you don't, I can *guarantee* that our office will be down much longer than if you'd leave me alone.

Also, I don't give a rat's ass about how much money you're "losing" or how "important" you think you are. I work as quickly as I can. Piss me off, and not only will your Pentium-based computer run like a 386, but I'll make sure to waste as much time as possible taking care of your "serious problem."

Lake Worth, primarily. However, my problems with Hurricane Wilma and "I demand I get my TV back right now because I can't live without it" were from Miami as far north as Hobe Sound, if I recall correctly. The majority of our nasty people were in Boca Raton, which is really no surprise. I did feel bad for those that are at the end of their lives and have nothing but the TV to watch. But, the rest of them were ritzy folks who have buttloads of money and are in great health, but it's deteriorating because they can't watch "As The World Turns".

I'm in Fort Lauderdale. Definitely no surprise there with Boca Raton having the most SC's. My mom once worked as a clerk over 10 years ago for a condo up there. I think it was called Fairway or something like that. She did have her fill of Boca Raton SC's there and thankfully she had a rockin' boss on her side.
