So we were slammed at glitter hell today, when a woman comes up and asks if she can leave her basket at my register while she goes across the street for an hour.
I said sure whatever, and pulled it closer to me so the floor associates wouldn't put the items away. An hour and a half later, the woman has yet to come back, so I left for my break, and left the basket unattended.
While I was in the back, the MOD called me on the walkie-talkie. The woman had finally come back and noticed that one of the items from her basket was missing. Of course it was the last one in the store, and she had already called her little boy to tell him he was getting the item for Christmas.
She went off on the MOD as to how I only had one job to do, just watch her basket.
Never mind that I'm the lead cashier, and the line would be 12 deep, then gone, then 12 deep again all day long, so i was constantly try to round up backup, then send them away, just to call them back.
But yes in her mind I had only one job to do, watch her shit.
Later a co-worker found 3 more of the damn thing she wanted. One was placed in the office for her so when she calls in to bitch about they can offer it to with a discount. Never mind that she didn't buy any of the things she still had in the basket. Although in the store manager heard that she rolled her eyes, so maybe she'll get nothing.
The manager seemed cool about the whole thing and said that she didn't blame me cause we were uber busy and the woman didn't return when she said she would. And truthfully, we not supposed to put seasonal items on hold.
The best bit is that she called to tell her son what he was getting for Christmas, yet I ruined it by going on break.
