I also can see a skater bailing, and the skate board still going and hits someone, since no one is on it to control it.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Um, I assume you've seen what objects look like after being repeatedly used as grind rails? Those things have to be repaired, and that costs money. Usually a fair amount to repair concrete edges. I'm sorry skaters who just ride without doing tricks off of property get kicked out too, but places are just protecting their wallets when they kick skaters out. Once again, the assholes ruin things for everyone.
Yep, which is why I started my initial reply by stating I understand and respect businesses who choose to not allow it.

At the store I work at there's metal brackets bolted onto the concete edges most tempting for skateboarders. They're cheap, not too noticable, and 100% effective.

Yeah, not noticable until one works a little loose and grabs your shoe, causing you to come down on another metal rail with the middle of your kneecap. It's been three weeks now, and I'm working up an awesome pink scar right across my knee.

However, on the other hand I know that skateboarding doesn't hurt anyone.
if the skaters know what they're doing. Problem is a lot of them want to try out "tricks"... and a lot of places don't want to be liable for any injuries they might incur. So if they fall and break something, the company can point to the sign and say, "It says 'no skateboarding' so it's their fault not ours. Go pay your own medical bills."

Plus... the company might be wary of the skaters doing their tricks and perhaps damaging the sidewalks, railings, or anything they might feel like jumping their skates off of and on to.

If we get to put up video cameras so I get to munch and watch the skateboarding kids go flying and fall on their heads or backs or butts, or take shots to the jimmies, I'm all for letting them skate wherever the hell they want.

Just like on those "Xtreme video" shows.

Sorry guys, but this thread's basically been one big debate about allowing skateboarding or not. Debates are Fratching territory. Since the previous pages were just full of debate, you get one warning on this one.
