The non-IT person's guide to computer problems: Something I came up while observing my co-workers and talking with customers*.
1.My computer is broken
(translation: I clicked on something 15 times and it’s not responding)
2. The computer doesn’t work
(I clicked on the area next to the icon or function I need, instead of ON the icon or function)
3. It’s doing something crazy!
(I clicked on some weird combination of keys that can’t be duplicated and I have no idea what I did)
4. It’s not supposed to do that!
(I don’t actually know why it’s doing it, but I’m sure it’s wrong; or, it’s doing what I told it to do, not what I wanted it to do)
5. It’s doing this wrong
(the function is working the way it’s supposed to, but I don’t like it that way)
6. Nope, can’t make it work, I give up!
(I keep doing it the way I want to, instead of the way I was told to, and for some reason that doesn’t work!)
*I am not a computer tech and will neither confirm nor deny doing any of these things myself
