  • ...You have got to be kidding.

Was going through my emails today and found this gem from a bit ago.

I got a request through my website for some work, right? Here's the thing though. He wanted a full web redesign if his blog. For free.

His logic was that not only would I be able to put it in my portfolio, but that he would also be very nice and give me a month's ad space down on one of the sidebars, and would put in a short blurb about my company as well.

Oh, but he also then states that well...his current design was set up on this same thing he was proposing...the "do-it-for-free-I'll-tout-ya-a-bit" thing. Unfortunately though, he never did hold up his end of the deal, oops. Whoever designed his site in the first place, never got that free advertising and such that he was promised.

Yeah...he asks for free work, tries to support it by saying his current design was done that way, and then admits he screwed over the last guy.

...I didn't even dignify it with a response.

What a douche. That's one thing about SC's in the computer world, they always think that anything you do on the computer for them should be free. If not, they want it for dirt cheap. Hey, we have to make a living too ya know! Asshats.

Just like any artist. People don't understand how much work goes into anything, so they think it should be cheap as hell or free.
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

(No offense to anyone) The worst part is the fact that everyone thinks every computer person should work at the same prices as the Indians. (Again, no offense. I just don't like being told I should make a website for $15 because some dude in Bangladesh is willing to)

There is only one thing I will do for free for a SC's computer.

It's kind of mind blowing that he admitted by email that he stiffed the last developer. I mean, in conversation you can imagine such things "slipping out". But email? He's got to formulate the idea of saying it, type it (and you know this is no touch typist!), and then actually hit Send.

Imagine in in the non-cyber world...

I don't want to pay anyone to build it, but if you build it for me for free, I'll put some signage up on it saying you guys built it and let my neighbours know what good work you do. Oh, and by the way, the guy who built my crappy fence last time did it for free for me for the same deal but I never did put his sign up! Ha ha ha ha! So ... when can you come round to build this fence?"

                    Nice try, I say.

If the guy in Bangledesh will do it for fifteen bucks, hey, let him. Get that guy to do it.

I charge a LOT of money to do a website. A LOT. The husband charges even more. He charges OBSCENE money. It's a lot of work, and we are very, very good at it. We do them for businesses, not penny ante people who don't want to pay.

You charge someone a stiff price as an acid test. If they dont' flinch, they're probably serious. If they do, suggest the neighbor's 12 year old to do it.

"Free work." That's a good one.

The scammers and deadbeats don't seem to realize it's a very small town here if you are a graphic artist/web developer. A guy just recently approached us to do a site, offered a lot of money. The next day we discovered he owed over a thousand bucks to a friend of hours. We burned that guy off. No work for you!

I don't get how in the multiverse one can possibly try to scam someone while explaining how they pulled the exact same scam on some other person and actually expect it to work !

The stupid is strong in that one.

when exactly does money become obscene*? Just curious-As I don't consider it obscene amounts until it's enough to buy a small house, or more than the GNP of a small country, which depending on the small country they could be close to the same amount

*or are we talking the $100 bills must be carefully folded into obscene origami?

As much as you are within your rights to not respond to him, he's probably too stupid to understand why you chose to ignore him. I say send him a little email with this as a reply. Or a link to this thread. lolz.

A lot of people want SCs to just go away, disappear, leave them in peace. Not me... I want to make them feel like idiots. I want them to realize how annoying/bitchy/stupid they are and make them feel bad about it.

I find "obscene" amounts of money are usually made by people who are not the person using the term (who knows they will never make that much ).

Usually the amount that will accompany a low whistle and a head shake by the mechanic when he's in the pit under your car!
