My fourth grade teacher once said, "There's a difference between being ignorant, and just plain stupid!" I didn't understand what he meant back then, but I figured it out pretty quickly once I went into retail.

One of my favorite teachers, lo, these many years ago, explained it this way:
Ignorance is when you haven't had an opportunity to learn.
Stupidity is when you have had the opportunity, but refused to take it.
