What? SOMEONE had to do it. And damn it, I'm just the heartless bastard to bring this up this year.
First, let me get out of the way the New Year's Resolutions I make every year, that I have yet to really come through on:
--I will learn how to make sushi rice, so that I can make sushi rolls, and not just sashimi platters.
--I will learn Spanish.
--I will exercise more and get ride of this burgeoning spare tire that is threatening to become a full on tractor tire.
Now for the new New Year's Resolutions for this year, some of which I may actually come through on:
--I will learn more about cooking, perhaps even taking a culinary class at the local community college, if they ever bother offering one. (Great CC for marine biology; lousy CC for home cooks like myself.)
--Towards the exercise thing, I will ride my commuter bike to work more often, rather than driving, other than on Wednesdays (the logistics of my two Wednesday jobs don't work for that) or on days when it rains (because while I don't mind RIDING in the rain, I DO mind working while wet!). This will be better for me physically and financially, not to mention saving wear and tear on my beloved Jestermobile.
--Also, I will ride my Killer Bike more often. She has been neglected, and I will neglect her less and ride more this year, and hopefully enter a triathlon and do better than I did in my last one. (Though I still won't be doing the swimming part of it...I still only swim well enough to not drown!)
--I will continue to compete in cookoffs, and work towards perfecting my chili....towards that I have not one, but TWO February chili cookoffs that I could enter. One involves an actual entry fee, among other things, so not sure if I'm going to do that one, but probably will. I may also do a chicken wings cookoff (the second chili cookoff in February is also a chicken wings cookoff), but then again, I may listen to my friend Popcorn who says that my wings suck, but my chili rocks. (I wonder how he made out last night....last saw him around 11ish...)
--I will walk with my stepsister. Sounds simple, until you remember that she was in an unresponsive coma for seven months, and while she is making amazing progress, has not been out of her bed or chair since November 2010. So a simple walk suddenly becomes HUGE.
--I will meet my first and (so far) only great nephew, Z-Man. While I was less than thrilled that my niece Bug got pregnant and gave birth at the tender young age of 19, I still can't wait to meet the big guy. And spoil the hell out of him, so that she is driven as nuts as she drove her parents and myself for all these years.
--I will continue to keep Cathy (the Jestermobile) in great shape. I've had her six years now, and it's only another year and a half until she surpasses Babs (the previous Jestermobile) for length of service. And she is holding up remarkably.
--I will do my first brewery tour, as part of the Beercation 2012. Anyone interested in joining my friends and I for Beercation 2012, it will most likely be in April or May in the Tampa area. Beer nuts only need attend.
--I will continue to try new rums and new beers. And probably new wines as well, though I am far stupider with wines than I am with rums and beers. (Had an AMAZING wine last night....a valpolicella. Also realized that I have been mispronouncing that style of wine BADLY for all these years.)
--I will meet the girl of my dreams, the Raiders will win the Super Bowl, the Diamondbacks will win the World Series, and the Sun Devils will win a national championship. What? You gotta aim high, right? (The Diamondbacks probably have the best shot of all four of these, actually....)
Okay, so...who's next? What are your lofty goals/plans/resolutions for 2012?
