    And so it begins

    Today is the day... well, it will be after 9am (thank God I won't be back here until 9pm... but even then we'll be in full shift). In 36 hours every single slot machine will be upgraded, our desk computers will be upgraded, the cashier cage computers will be upgraded, the pit computers will be upgraded, an entire server bank will be replaced, two new self service machines will be installed, and all of this will happen without shutting down the casino.
    While this is happening we'll be having to replace every single players card that has ever been issued (all the accounts will be migrated to the new servers and new software, but they will be issued new account numbers), keep guests informed on which card they will need to use in which machines during the change over, create new pin numbers for each player, and at no point turn a guest away due to technical problems.
    Robert Irvine can eat his heart out, he can redo a restaurant in two days with it closed, we're going to redo an entire resort in two days with it open for business (with our only concession being we are doing it during the week instead of the weekend).

    *grabs popcorn* Kinda like turning a Mart of Wall store into a Super... You have got to share the tales of the stupid SCs who don't bother reading the signs, or ask the same question 15 times.. well, I'm not stupid enough to imagine what they'll pull. I just know you'll see some doozies.
    If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

      Wow. I know you've been saying that this upgrade is a good thing, that things are expected to go smoother once it's done, but it sounds like you're going to have a crazy couple of days. Can't wait to hear what kind of SCs you get.

      (Also, hoofbumps for the B5 reference!)

        Oh WOW! That's one helluva rollout!
        to the IT team and the floor team if you guys can pull this off without too many bumps.
        No trees were killed in the posting of this message.

        However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

              I'm crossing my fingers here and praying there are no issues. Tell the IT team to sacrifice at least two chickens for this rollout.

                Well, already at a good start... and by good start, I mean we still don't have our new cards or card embossers installed, yet machines are already starting to come online with the new system...

                      Woohoo, IT was just at the front desk to map out the network to install the new embossers... now it's just a race between IT and slots to see who finishes first
                      Apparently earlier when I said machines were coming back online already... what I meant was that slots was blowing smoke out of their asses and trying to make it look like they weren't as far behind schedule as everyone else is in this process.
                      So far the rage has been at a minimum... it also isn't 3am yet... oh, that is when there will probably be hell to pay when the insomniacs start coming in expecting their Tuesday bonuses only to find out that our system is still down (like the server ain't there down) and we can't redeem any bonus offers. Oh, but the coupon says it is valid starting at 3am... yeah, it also says management reserves all rights and may cancel or alter offers at its discretion... their discretion is that they want to replace the servers right now and that as a consequence the offer has been altered to not be valid until such time as the new servers are running.

                        Oh yay, another update... our billing profile system has gone down... so hopefully no one wants to do a walk in on anything other than a prevailing rate guest pay, the default option, because we have no way to change it right now. How the hell it went down in the first place is a mystery to me... we weren't supposed to be changing anything on the hotel side, only the players club side, yet the hotel servers are also getting screwed up...

                            well, this is special

                            So, we still don't have all of our slots up, our computers are only half working... we did finally get the new cards at least.
                            Of course problems, guests still have coupons for the old system, we have no way of redeeming them right now... and just for fun, player tracking is broken beyond belief because we are still running two player tracking systems... oh, comp rooms still aren't working.
                            Yeah, it's a right bloody mess.
