When I went to see 21 with a friend two days ago, I saw at least 10 different people in front of me using their cellphones. Worst of all, there were a few teenage girls running around and giggling throughout the whole movie. I was so close to yelling at them to shut up and sit the f-ck down.

What the hell did all these people do when there were NO cell phones?
A lot more people died due to lack of manpower to save them.

On the whole bluetooth thing, we've got a guy at work that is on his freaking bluetooth all the time! We rent space in a nearby warehouse, and other workers in the place expressed concern that he wasn't right in the head because he was "talking to himself" all of the time. They really had no concept of what a bluetooth hands free device was.

A bit off topic, but every time I'm on the road and see someone flaring their arms and appearing to be yelling, I always assume they are on a Bluetooth before I assume they are just nuts.

Too many instances where I assumed the person was crazy and talking to themselves, and then I saw the Bluetooth.

As I work at a movie theatre, I must advise anyone reading this thread to please come out and tell someone when another customer is causing a disturbance. Unfortunately, many of the customers where I work seem to expect us to have ESP, as they come and complain afterwards, when we can't do anything but refund their money or get them readmission passes, and it's amazing that they'd rather sit through two hours of suck than miss a couple minutes of the movie. Please, just come out, find a manager (some of our employees aren't exactly the greatest ) and tell us (or show us) exactly where the offenders are, and then we can take care of it. Plus, if the manager happens to be in a bad mood, we might just kick them out without any prior warnings.

And as for Bluetooth, it's a good thing I was already in a conversation with an employee the other day, because this one woman was talking on one but was looking straight at me in the hallway. It was kind of weird, but at least I didn't respond back. And that reminds me, lots of our customers who have them seem to forget that they constantly blink that blue light, and they keep it on during the show. No one usually complains, but we still go into the rows and tell them to take it off if we see them. That has to be annoying to the other customers.

It can be both sometimes. I would feel a little crazy if I was driving around yelling and waving may arms even if I was talking to someone.

Cell phone scramblers... it's the wave of the future for movie theaters.

The only major issue I see with that in a movie theater setting is that a lot of parents go there to have a 'date night', and leave the kids at home with a sitter. Well, if an emergency were to happen, reaching the parents could prove difficult, which would raise the stress level for all.

I think about this because I watch a 5-year old with leukemia, and if she gets a fever above 101, she has to go to the hospital because she has zero immune system. I had to call her parents one night because she had a fever of 101.3. They came immediately home and took her to the hospital. A fever is dangerous for her, and I was a little spooked as it is, I would have been thoroughly stressed and scared if I couldn't reach them.

              Just a thought...

I always complain if someone is trying to ruin my night; I have gotten people kicked out of a cinema before. XD This woman brought her demonic kids into the cinema; one kicked my seat, the other talked loudly. I got up and found the usher who immediately restored my faith in humanity by telling the woman to get out. Cue a silent and uneventful rest of movie.

And yes, I do assume people are insane even if I see the Bluetooth. XD Cuz to me, I'd prefer to walk with a visible phone attached to my ear so that everyone assumes I'm talking to a real person.

When my friend and I went to see one of the Harry Potter movies, I was about ready to KILL!!! This kid right behind me was coughing the ENTIRE MOVIE. And not just little coughs, BRONCITIS COUGHS. I got it twice a year until my surgery, so I know that cough, it's a really deep loud cough and once you start, you can't stop.

IMHO, if your kid's too sick to go to school, DON'T TAKE THEM TO A MOVIE!!!!

(And, no, it wasn't opening night or anything like that)

And, my final word on Bluetooth, especially while driving. Sorry folks, I'd rather look like an idiot on the highway with my bluetooth (since I'm usually singing along to a musical, the bluetooth doesn't really make a difference), rather than BEING ILLEGAL! (since talking on a cell while driving is illegal in my state)

It's actually considered just as distracting talking on a hands free due to the fact that you're concentrating on something other than driving; but that's a subject for another thread. I don't drive and talk, due to being on a motorbike; a little hard.

IMHO, if your kid's too sick to go to school, DON'T TAKE THEM TO A MOVIE!!!!
Agreed. Not just cuz of them disrupting the movie for everyone else, but cuz I don't particularly want their germs and to get sick myself, thanks very much.

There was a time when you COULDN'T get in touch with someone at the push of a button.

Nobody NEEDS to have a cell phone.
I'm sure people in "the time before cell phones" who were on duty or on call 24hrs a day had to tell their dispatch where they would be at any time. In that situation the dispatch might have to call a theater, restaurant, friend, family member, dentist office, etc... and have an employee or somebody hunt down that person. Of course, if you needed to talk to them while drive to or from the theater, then you were out of luck.

I would argue that people on duty or on call 24 hours a day need cell phones.

Sorry, but a hands free phone of any sort is just as dangerous as a regular cell phone with the exception of the few seconds it takes to open a regular cell phone. It's the conversation that causes the problems, not how the phone is designed.

As for those who say "nobody needs a cell phone." While that may be strictly true, I want my local emergency services personnel to have their cell phones so that if there's a massive accident nearby or my building catches on fire, they can get ahold of the people they need to get it taken care of as quickly as possible.

It seems to me that a little annoyance at the theater or at the shopping mall is worth a whole lot less than, say, the annoyance of someone else having to arrange a funeral.

Think about how good you have it that cell phones are one of your biggest gripes.

I get the argument that at least emergency personnel should be able to use their phones at all times. I wonder if there would special phones for those people that aren't affected by scramblers? Perhaps they can use pagers?

I see that the idea of cell-phone scramblers isn't very practical, but it just frosts my cookies that there are so many inconsiderate jerks out there. Like I said, I rarely...almost never... go to the movies, anymore. People have always been rude, but it just seems like cell phones up the suck factor.

I feel bad for the theater employees who have to try and deal with removing those people...

I'm sorry if my comments came across as harsh- they weren't meant to be.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

Why is this thread so into the kids and their phones? Even the adults are doing it now, talking away while a movie is playing. And never mind the cell phones. The last time I went to a movie was when "Casino Royale" was out, and this asshole and his heffer wife yakked the whole time to each other. "Hey, isn't that neat how they do that?" "Yeah, that Daniel Craig is something!" No matter how many "Shhhh"'s were given to this couple, they continued talking throughout the movie to each other.

Why don't these people go hang out at the local bookstore or music store?
This is why I have invested in a home theater.

Yeah, it's banned here in ABQ and Santa Fe, too....but that doesn't seem to stop anyone, including the cops from doing it!

Do you know what the worst part about all these cell phone bans they put through all over the place? In most states, it was already illegal to drive and talk on a hand held cell phone.

I know that in California, specifically, there is a law on the books that requires that both hands be on the steering wheel except when shifting a manual transmission or when using hand signals. All they had to do was start enforcing it.
