Ahh.. my younger days I was a member of the so-called, "Mangaloids."

I did go and sit in the corners away from everyone with one I bought, though...

Speaking of hentai and Books-a-Million, the one nearby doesn't wrap theirs, and often I'll be there and see an older man in a chair perusing at his leisure.

Good times.

Heyeeeaaahhh...I've been guilty of sitting in the aisle sometimes. But that's only to see the ones on the bottom shelf. My knees give out if I crouch too long so I sit. But if I see someone that needs t get through I will stand and apologize. I love manga and my Walden's Bookstore and will not jeopardize my being there with being a total douche.
I was in there just today, getting some new manga books (the section is mostly in jap. and HUGE so it took me a while) and while I was waiting for the clerks(who were off helping other customers) I was just looking around, kinda people watching, which is the main reason I go to the mall anymore and there was a group of guys, bout my age, maybe a little younger giggling and rearranging books in the manga section. As they walked out, I glared at them and "accidently" tripped one of them.
SC: Hey, watch it fatty!
Me:Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to trip you. Here, let me help you up. *reaches down, helps him up and shoves him out of the store.* ( i know juvenile, but good results.) He stumbles into his friends, falls past the metal detectors and the alarms start going off. A mall cop comes up and arrests them. Turns out, they had a whole series of "adult" manga in their pants (go figure). I then picked up my books, their stolen goods and went back to that section and fixed it, replaceing what they took. I then payed and left, laughing in my head as I passed them being escorted from the building with their moms yelling and ranting behind them. Ah justice.
Just because they serve you, doesn't mean they like you. And just because they smile and act polite doesn't mean they aren't planning to destroy you.

"I put the laughter in slaughter."

Wow someone just hit my biggest pet peeve button about this one. I hate it when the kids just sit in the isle and grab several books and then just walk arround, leaving them anywhere. But then again there is this one adult who will just sit there stretched out reading. And of course the parents don't care. I'm to the point where I might just start shopping online. I say keep the books locked up and if you want one, ask for it.
I like to scare small childeren, it's fun and as long as you can out run the parents you can get away with it.

At my anime shop. We have our Mangas in see-thru plastic bags. If they want to look at it, they have to buy them. . BTW, we only had one stolen Manga, and that was because I was going To the restroom, and the other coworker should have been out in front, but she wasn't.

This MUST be Suzuka. Hubby LOVES this manga, and he doesn't even care for manga.
Nope, Ai Yori Aoshi. Every other volume has at least 2 or three of the characters in topless mode in the bathhouse or locker room or dressing room......

*shakes head* And to add my frustrations.....

Today, I caught two kids that were in the section for 5 hours straight. I saw them at the begining of my shift, saw them occasionally as I shelved stuff, and just as we're about to close, the two were starting to leave, leaving a pile of manga on the shelf. I caught them and forced them to put the books back as I watched.

How boring must your summer vaction be to spend 5 hours in a bookstore?

I'm a fan of Bleach and Aa! Megamisama! (better known here as Ah!(or Oh!) My goddess!). I tried some of Negima!
but i wasn't getting into it.

The borders i go to basically has anyone under the age of 16 is not allowed in unless accompanied by a parent after 6pm(4pm on weekends.) And the Manga+ Graphic Novels is right next to the service desk in the middle.

Funny how they have one of the lowest theft rates in the country.

The Barnes and Noble I frequent has its manga section right next to the music section. I'm a huge fan of the old Marvel comics (Spider-Man, X-Men, Wolverine etc) and those happen to be right across from the manga. Too often I've seen kids pile manga stacks reaching up to my knees. Summer is definitely going to suck with those guys running around causing trouble.

In one manga, Bathhouse scences with near full-frontal nudity can be seen. Without plastic wrap.
I just don't get how they decide which ones should be wrapped and which ones shouldn't. I've seen ones that have no nudity at all, not even obscured, that have been wrapped, and I've seen stuff with full nudity and adult situations that have been loose. Color me baffled.

Yeah, but they want to cultivate an "atmosphere"
Screw "atmosphere." If your store wants an atmosphere of collecting rude, book-damaging, aisle-blocking brats, then your store likes losing a lot of sales, because people like me will stop going.

I'm seriously considering boycotting the stores altogether and just buying everything online.

I'm a Negima fan, myself. I think it's a cute story. Most harem manga, however, just sucks. Takahashi falls into this mold way too often. And stuff like Tenchi gets incredibly old after a short while. Ai Yori Aoshi at least has a guy who wants only one girl, and most of the rest of the girls know it.

Well... I used to spend most of my summer at the library. I could rip through a hundred or so books in just a few months.

It makes me sad to hear about Sacred Manga being misused that way . I don't usually post (obviously) because I'm fairly shy but... after fans of the industry worked so hard to get companies to translate and publish the manga in the first place, seeing kids being so unappreciative shocks me.

(On a side note I go manga shopping once every two or three months and usually spend $200-300. No, I'm not wealthy, its just the only thing I ever spend money on for pleasure. )

I used to love manga/anime. But I realized everything was too generic.
The same comedic elements were in every single one:
-Sweat drops.
-Embarrassed collapses.
-"Angry faces" where the character's head grows larger, the eyes lose pupils, and that damn vein pops out.
-Some stupid scene where the characters profess their love for rice balls/udon/ramen.
The action ones weren't much better. Everythign was magic or robots or some god-awful combination.

The only animes I appreciate these days are Paranoia Agent (It creeps me the fark out), and Blue Gender (I think giant bugs are badass).

Blood: The Last vampire doesn't have such generic 'must haves'..

well, except for the gore and nudity.

I guess it's really up to the publisher. They come in wrapped (or not), but once they get opened there's not much we can do. I don't know how many stores actually have shrink wrap machines. Store1 actually does have a one, but Store2 doesn't so we couldn't even re-wrap them. But if they rewrapped every manga that got opened they'd spend all day back there.

Yes it has harem manga running gags, but it also happens to be very funny and has some exceptional fights and a decent storyline if you actually bother to get beyond that one gag. A gag which, BTW is NOT that often, and BTW, both Negima and LH are PARODIES of the harem manga genre with far more then "lots of naked women attracted to one guy".

We are not all in it for the cheap thrill of a cartoon girls censored hohoh thank you very much.
Thank you! SO wanted to go onto a heated rant about people not liking Ken Akamatsu. If you've ever read A.I. Love You, you will see that he didn't use those antics.

The problem is that someone sees the sneeze and the clothes coming off and it's OMFG it's teh pron aaaaaaah! Trust me, there are a lot worse titles out there that make Negima! and Love Hina tame in comparison.
Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

Oh come on. Yes there are some general comedic elements, but really, that hardly seems fair to label every genre of an entire countries animation style over. Such generalities happen EVERYWHERE in the world in different ways.
