Conbravo day 1.
So after getting lost on our way because apparently the street the con is on is very short and not really a street, don’t ask. We arrive and attend the opening ceremonies, after I find out the cardboard robot building thing is full and a little lame. The opening ceremonies were narrated by james portnow of extra credits (the only guest I didn’t get a photo with that I wanted to). After some local Chinese food we went to the pub quiz run by jewwario. I had made some perler bead items for a couple of the guests one of which had involved emergency superglue repairs while at the Chinese food place. They all really liked them and I did use it a bit as a quick intro. Though for nash I think I was upstaged when someone just handed him an entire case of beer out of nowhere.
I manage to assemble a team for this pub quiz including 2 people that were previously at the robot building event on the team I was on for about 30 seconds (it was more there was nothing for me to do is why I left) and my sister and her boyfriend and someone that joined partway through and left partway through. Before we start we are given the number 4 and we choose team throatpunch as the team name. Then the celebrity guests draw numbers for which team they are going to be on and Linkara draws our number (fangasm) and we have fun doing the pub quiz and linkara is one of the nicest damn people you will ever meet. That’s where I got what ended up being the first of many photos with celebrity guests.
After the pub quiz I got to an improv show for the online comedy group the 404s which uses cards against humanity and have the experience of being part of a sketch (moving people), it involved cannibalism. The weirdest part though was right before the beginning of the show they set the scene with a scenario using the “the us government has created the department of ________” card and got a suggestion of “sex” which the go with for their sketch. This guy in the audience stood “I don’t want to listen to people talk about sex” and then marched out of the room saying “Excuse me” repeatedly and loudly even when no one was in his way and he stood in the door for a second saying it as well. Another audience member told him to get out and called him a dick. I said that if he didn’t want to hear people talk about sex he came to the wrong panel. The performers were looking around all wtf so I don’t think it was staged. Then we drove 40 minutes back to my sister and slept. After about 5 hours of sleep we drove back to the con.
Day 2
I get there in time for the Nostalgia critic Q&A and try to get up to him to give him the perler bead appa I had made but was unable to do so as he was basically escorted by 6 volunteers to his next panel. I did get to see him hint at a sailor moon review and also a girl in her wheelchair, with a happy birthday balloon, made him promise to do a mama mia review by giving him the puppy dog eyes and saying it was her birthday wish. The entire audience chanting “do it” probably helped. There is a small chance of me being in the audience shot at the end of the next musical review. Will update if this happens. I managed to catch him after two more panels where he was very appreciative of the perler bead appa I made for him (in honor of his airbender reviews). Also his middle panel (the most annoying game show in the world) I must say that surprisingly mara Wilson is very short. Anyways after the panels I browsed the vendors, and managed to get in on a game or two. I like the discworld board game a lot and the pixel Lincoln as well. I managed to get one game of edh magic, I didn’t win but I managed to piss off and impress all the other players (and isn’t that the point of edh anyways) in one move. However multiple attempts were made to start games as people ditched me before even finishing the game setup. After gaming I go to catch what was supposed to be the last 2 hours of the masquerade but ended up being the last 5 minutes (there weren’t many entries despite half the con being in costume) later on after a trip to subway I where I got food and a bunch of cookies I went to the d20 live gaming session of linkara, scifiguy, mike the birdman dodd and mark meer (voice of commander Sheppard) and watched them game for a couple hours fighting xenomorphs and I gave them the cookies for the game. For which they were appreciative. Sometime during this day I was in line to buy linkara’s dvd and the line was moving slowly, this upset the guy behind me greatly. Now there was a point where the two ladies in front of us were chatting with someone at a table but still in line, and the guy behind me wanted to cut in front of them, the line wasn’t moving and there was no gap, I pointed this out to him multiple times. We get up there and the people in front of us asks for a photo with linkara, I ended up being photographer. I turn around the guy behind us has basically taken the front of the line forcing me out. Like hell he did, I just turned around and got back in line in my freaking spot.
The gaming during this day because the room was loud left me being very horse the next day.
Day 3:
Honestly was very tired at this point and didn’t do much this day but attended panels and got more photos with people. I was disappointed to see the rorshack cosplayer was not in fact a redhead when he removed his mask. Still not ginger. I had to repeat my question to the channel awesome q&a I was so hoarse. Nothing much stands out from the con this day, aside from the cards against humanity game which I won which linkara played a couple rounds in. This day was just kind of chill as everyone was tired. I had to wait an hour and a half between between my train and bus as the bus leaves about 2 minutes after the train arrives. But I made it home. Fortunately I had made the wise decision of buying a new book after finishing my current one. This one being 1250 pages long. And then I am home and comatose.
