my hubby has a spare to the car in his wallet. This spare won't start the engine (different key due to the key part of the ignition going out) but it will unlock the door. You can't unlock the passenger side from the outside.
I did have a car that was a beater both inside and out. It had a computer issue, so if you didn't pull over and shut down in ten miles, it would die. I didn't bother locking it, since I was praying someone would attempt to steal it. Never happened, sadly. I'd have simply told police to look for it in a ten mile radius and a pissed off thief walking away from it.
