Bonus points to people who get that movie quote. I used it because it applies to this situation perfectly.
It's been a while since I've had a commissioner sucky enough to post on Customers Suck but today takes the cake.
I've had a long time commissioner who has purchased multiple ref sheets from me over the past year. (A ref sheet is basically a front and back or side view pose of a character used to show body type/details/markings of said character for other artists to use as a reference when drawing them).
This year he has had four ref sheets for me to do, and with each ref sheet he has given me a list of details such as color, name, gender, winged or wingless and so on while also including a photo reference of the exact poses he has wanted for each. I have finished the first two and have started the 3rd. On the 3rd ref sheet, he had included a photo of a man facing forward with his arms folded for the pose to use for his character. He had made no further details about changing this pose in the photo in any way, he just sent the photo.
So yesterday I completed the sketch with that same pose. For the front view I made his dragon character arms folded in front of chest and then applied the same thing for the back view, but with his back facing the viewer instead of the front. That's both sketch views completed.
When I sent it out for final approval (with watermarks all over it) before inking and coloring, he sent me a reply saying "That looks really good but I wanted the pose to be angled."
Pause.
You might have WANTED it to be angled but you didn't ASK for it.
Because of the completely different perspective of an angled pose I would have to literally start from nothing and redo both sketches. I was pissed and still am. I sent a reply stating that you did not specify you wanted the pose to be angled anywhere in the character info in the email for this ref sheet, and this is the exact pose reference photo that you sent to me for it. (attaches picture of exact photo he sent)
In addition to that I stated that if he wanted the pose to be angled that the cost would be an additional $30 on top of the base price he was already paying for having to start the sketch over. I added that if he didn't want to pay the fee that he could keep it how it was and I could complete what I already have with no extra fee. To be honest I'd rather just finish it as is and not get the extra $30 because I have other commissions in line (big projects coming up) and having to go back and redo this one completely throws off my whole schedule. Stuff like this pisses me off. I would have had this commission possibly finished by tomorrow if not for this garbage.
Still waiting for his reply.
