Happened last night. Guest asks for a rollaway. Only problem is that his room already has 2 queen beds, and not a lot of room for another bed. It's a fire hazard. I had to break the news. Another guest from the same room comes up to the desk and asks me to explain again why his son can't get a rollaway. Nice, trying to lay the guilt trip on me, I'll lay it back on. I again explain it's a fire hazard and that's something the hotel can be fined for. He says he understands, then leaves.
Throughout the night, I get calls from the room. The switchboard shows what room number they're calling from if it's an internal line. I don't usually get past the greeting before they hang up.
One of them tries a bright plan. He calls from an outside line. Says that he talked to the lady at the desk earlier about getting a rollaway. I offer to bring one to his room. He declines saying his son will pick it up. I ask him for a room number. He tells me a different room number on the 3rd floor instead of their 1st floor room. I tell them I'll be right up with it since I have to go up to the 2nd floor anyways to access the closet they're all stored in.
I get to the 3rd floor room, and the guy tells me he never ordered a rollaway. I apologize and leave, putting the rollaway back in the closet. Funny enough, they gave up after this.
