  • Advice on Creative Writing and Keeping a Journal

I am pursuing a brand new relationship with a lovely woman. Before anyone says anything, she has made it clear from day one that she wants a female led relationship. BTW, if anyone tries to advise me not to pursue an FLR, I will ignore you.

She wants me to write Her stories about what's on my mind. She also wants me to write a journal about my day. The problem is that I'm not experience with creative writing and I have never kept a journal. Does anyone have advice on the writing and keeping a journal?

Also, does anyone have other advice about handling comments about friends' and family's criticisms if they notice she is leading our relationship?

Bum on seat, words on page.

When I was writing my book, I put those six words on my computer monitor, just above eye level. It doesn't matter what words you put on the page in your first draft, that's what editing is for.

Start with just putting words on the page. Stream of consciousness. Show your lady this advice of mine if you feel the need.

You can learn how to turn one stream of consciousness into a journal, and the other into creative writing, after you learn to get any words onto the page. The biggest difference between the two is format, and that journal is fact (or opinion, or emotion, and IMO emotion is fact anyway), and stories are fiction.

If you want to start with a difference between the two, put your experiences, opinions and emotions in the journal, and your daydreams and wishes in the story.

Toth has a new mantra he's written down. 'Being bad at something is a necessary step towards being good at it.'
    Seshat's self-help guide:
    1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
    2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
    3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
    4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Thank you, Seshat. I guess I just needed the encouragement.

I agree with Seshat. Seshat nearly always has the best advice. As for comments on your relationship ignore them. Your life your choice. What works for some may not work for others. If you are happy in a female led relationship great! If you find you are not happy that way then great! As long as there is mutual respect and you are both happy then more power to you. The only reply you need is "It works for us".

          Thank you, Pudddykat.

I don't anticipate criticism from my extended family. One cousin has been divorced twice. Another cousin is a man who married a man. A third cousin lost custody of her children. (Her children are being taken care of by her sister.) My own sister has never dated and sees no reason to date anyone.

My mother may be another story.

That's partly because when I don't have good advice (or advice I think is helpful, anyway) I don't chime in.

That said, the compliment is appreciated. It's nice to be helpful!

I had to write a journal entry that was extremely painful to write. My partner told me to write about my love life. She was moved by it.

I seriously hope this one works out.

My handwriting sucks so my first thought is transcribing my thoughts in Word.

I don't know how well these things work: perhaps you could use the speech function so you can state your thoughts and it's transcribed in Word?

I also wonder if an audio diary would be acceptable. You can record your thoughts and send them to her. She can hear the emotion in your voice, hear the changes in your voice, in your breath upon certain topics. She can hear the smile in your voice...

When it's a difficult entry topic to write, it may help to stop and breathe. Then focus on how doing this pleases her.... Focus on what you've learned while doing this for her.

Re handling comments: Other's reactions says more about themselves than about what they're commenting on. You can try to anticipate someone's reactions and what you would do (or not) in response. Yet they may surprise you. Or not. If you're happy and content, your needs are getting met, then that's the main thing. Focus on what's best for the both of you.
Your story may not have such a happy beginning, but that doesn't make you who you are. It is the rest of your story who you choose to be. So who are you? - Kung Fu Panda 2

Actually, I'm supposed to submit it in text, so my handwriting doesn't matter, yet. I have suggested using my voice, but she's not on board right now.

I will keep in mind your advice about my friends and family.

I believe I have the hang of keeping a journal. Also, She seems to enjoy some of my fantasies. If anyone is interested, I will tell about the progress our relationship in another thread.

I'm glad your writing is working out, and that our advice helped.

Your local library should have books about writing techniques and skill development, and there is a LOT of material online as well - both websites and e-books. 'Writer's Digest' magazine helped me a great deal back when paper magazines were still relevant; if they have a website you could check that out.

Thank you again for your advice. I will check out "Writers Digest.". Like I said before, she has been enjoying my journal entries. She has also enjoyed my imagination. However, my imagination has caused her to make me do something I've never done before. Let's say I might ask for fashion advice later.

Nope, no real advice on how to keep a journal. Now as a sometimes writer, i do have general advice on writing, which is write honestly. Seriously, don't write what you think your audience (whether that audience is one person, or the whole world) wants, write what's in you, let yourself shine through, show people who you are.

Good luck with everything, while many FLR relationships don't impress me, that's very much me (the whole crawl worm/worthless man thing doesn't do it for me, i don't think anyone is worthless, just possibly worth less). •offers a toast• Here's to finding yourself and a person that appreciates you, possibly the person.

A lot of the 'crawl worm' thing is pure porn. It's expected in porn, so they do it, so it's expected, so they do it, so ...

That annoys me about porn. Most of it seems completely fake. However, some porn does get it right. One Domme say about her male sub, "When I look at him, I see a winner."
