Default Well, because the world seems stupider than ever...

no, I guess you really aren't a bad mother.

You guys decide.....

In walks 16 year old "Sup man, I have a room or something"

Apparently, this gangsta's mother made a reservation for him using her frequent stay points. She thought that no one would give a damn that her 16 year old son and his 16 year old friend were staying at the hotel by themselves.

First thing I did was ask for hommies ID. He gives it to me and I see that he is 16. I tell him to go one of his parents to check into the room. This is when he lets me know that they are not with him, its just him and his friend. I tell him that this is not going to work. He gets his phone and calls mommy. She wants to talk to me (big surprise).

She starts with the "I do not understand what he can't stay there, I am paying for it with my points!". It takes me minutes to make her realize that I am not contesting the points, but that he is TOO YOUNG to stay here alone. She says, and I hear deja vu all over again, "What do you care? Its my problem to deal with!". What is wrong with stupid people? How is it your problem to deal with when young MC is staying in my crib yo?!?!?! (attempt at humor BTW)

She keeps going on and on about how she sees no problem with him staying by himself, and how she is a frequent stay platinum card holder blah blah blah....She figured I wasn't going to budge, so she gave up. She kept complaining about how she used her points and now she won't get them back. I, being the nice person I am, told her that I will get her points back for her. She, being the great person she is, let me know how confident she was in me by stating "Right" with a big sigh afterwards.

I know that this isn't the last I heard of her, but at least I know that corporate will be on my side on this one if she does decide to complain (which she will).

Maybe you could have asked her if the points also covered a babysitter for the MINOR staying in YOUR establishment. Point out that she gave birth to him, not you.

I love how parents expect every business to have complimentary babysitting services.

"Can you watch my underage kid?"
"Does our sign say 'Daycare'?"

I love the little white boy thug impersonators. One day some kid, about 15 comes up to the bakeshop register and want's to buy a dough nut. I ring it up and he is short about .06. He says his mom is in the store shopping. He sash me to page her so he can borrow some money. Before I can respond, mommy shows up and his her darling son a shiny dime. If I had to make a page, I am only allowed to page people to the CS desk, but I really wanted to say " Attention Shoppers, If there is a Mrs. Jones in the store, please come to the bakery register, you're rapper thuggin wannabe son needs to mooch .06 cents off of you for a dough nut, also his plastic bling needs to be updated, ya hear?" I bet his little buddies would have ran like hell, then again I didn't want to get written up.

I cannot stand those guys. I had a teacher who taught in an area of California (VERY bad and no I can't remember the area) and he said that if he sent kids to the place he worked at that those guys would go from acting tough to covering every area of their body.

Off topic but what is the age requirement to stay in a hotel by yourself? I've heard different ages but no definite age. I'm 20 by the way.

Here in PA, the check-in ages are usually 21 and over, but some areas are 18 and over. I don't know the reason for the discrepancy, but I have found out that if one hotel/motel's check-in age is 18 and over, then the same will generally apply for most of the hotels and motels in that area, and the same goes for check-in ages of 21 and over.

i know that in nevada the rule is 18 if the hotel does not have an attached casino and 21 if there is an attached casino... i have no clue how they figure it out elsewhere though.

Check in age can depend on city, county and/or state laws just to start, then its the corporate policy, and I wouldn't be surprised to know that in the case of a franchise unit, the franchisee can set a higher age if they desire.

Two 16 year old kids staying in a hotel room all by themselves can invite all kinds of trouble. Had you let them stay & something stupid happened then YOU would have been liable for whatever nonsense they would have gotten into.
So you done good...lol.

Okay, so you've explained it to her, mainly the fact that he is underage and therefore cannot stay at your hotel by himself. How would this mother react if her kid was sexually abused by someone staying there, or by a member of your staff? Sounds to me like she would not be the one to take responsibility, and would file charges on you for not watching out for her kid.

Actually, both of you would be in trouble on this one, because Mommy Dearest let her son stay by himself in a hotel without any chaperones, and you allowed a minor to stay in a hotel by himself without chaperones, going against company policy and the law.
