Default We are not babysitters

I heard the shrieking of children and wished it away. I didn't stop and could only pray that the parents would step in. Yeah right. I was helping a customer and then needed to clean a mess. I went to get some paper towels when I noticed 4 children sitting on the ground, leaning up against register 1. They looked around the same age, five or six, and two of them were screaming. There was a man and a woman standing next to them and I figured they had it under control. Ummmm, no, they didn't. Turns out they planted the screaming brats there for some time and expected everyone to move around them. A woman went to check out and had an issue with the screamers. The mom could give a crap, as if the fact that she birthed them was enough. Words were exchanged and a fist-a-cuffs was avioded. My SM spent over an hour on the phone talking both parties down afterwards. Fact is, crack mom (her arms were covered in track scares, not really crack related but it sounds better) was totally in the wrong and everyone had to suffer for it. We can only hope that somewhere down the line DCFS steps in, because we were not given enough ammo to call them ourselves.

For all intents and purposes, it sounds as though they abandoned their children. That's not enough ammo to warrant a call? Just in case?

Well, I suppose it could've been worse, and they could've left the kids at home unsupervised for weeks at a time...
