Default First Post+The Permanent Scarring of My Innocent Mind. (Long, but an epic)

Hi all, first post here.

Whilst technically I don't work in retail or anything like that, and have never been an employee per se, I've had enough experience at my "job" at my local library to write here.

Now, in my library, I'm what's called a page. Basically, I do the crap no one wants to do; clean the study carrels, reshelve books and holds, and man the reference desk. In return, I get $10 an hour, or $20 a week, and $100 bonuses each month going towards a college education if I do well. Considering college is 3 years away, I should get a good bit out of this.

Now, today I was cleaning out our study rooms. These are some pretty awesome things. Free wifi, a comp, printer, scanner, fax machine, and a phone. The design is pretty cool too. It has three sides of glass facing the library that can be covered with these blinds that come down from the ceiling. To activate them, you press the button inside, or you use the special override key outside, that only employees can use.

So, happy me goes to Carrel #1 to clean. Windex the windows, wipe down the comp, replace a light bulb, restock some reference books, its all good. Then I go to Carrel #2, located next to our children's section. I put my key into the slot and raise the curtains, and drop my lightbulbs, which shatter, in shock.

Inside, there is a woman *ahem* pleasuring herself with the phone.

My horrified yell brings my supervisor running. (Note bene: Great guy, he's the one who negotiated the whole college thing, which never happens for pages) As he rushes to the scene, our SC in question notices her new audience and says to me, "Well, you were going to clean them anyways." She then picks up the phone, which is cordless, and puts it in my ungloved, previously clean hands, and walks away.

At which point, my supervisor, noticing my situation, calls the local police, who are right next door. She's arrested for indecent exposure, vandalism, and assault, (I think that may because she slammed the phone into my hands pretty hard, sending {brace yourself} a gooey spray into my face.) As she's led away, we find out from the arresting officers that she's a registered sex offender, and is wanted for Grand Theft Auto anyways.

End result:

- I spend the next hour in the bathroom washing everything that I could off of me.
- I get the next week off, to "recover."
- I have to appear in court to testify against the woman
- She's going to get min 10 years, what with all the charges and the warrant.
- Because my supervisor clocks out 20 min before me, crappy supervisor comes in, and still makes me clean the phone and whatnot.
- The library is trying to make sure my parents don't sue, so they're giving me a $20 and hour pay raise, and giving me health insurance. The joys of being a minor.

That is positively disgusting. Although sounds like you're getting pretty good compensation for it. The library I work at would have kicked the woman out, filed a report, and told us that if we saw her again to let them know. No raise, no days off to recover. I feel for ya.

Ahh, and here I was enjoying my delicious grilled panini breakfast too. That lasted up until the "spray" part.

Read the OSHA regs here. There is no way they should have made you clean up the place unless he had the proper "Universal Precautions".

Oh my blog! That is disgusting! Good compensation though. Think of it as a blessing in disguise.

Welcome to the boards.

Welcome to the working world my friend. If that's the worse thing you see in your life I'd be greatful because from here on out I can only promise you what the movie advertisements refer to as a roaring rampage of bloody revenge...or I watch Kill Bill Volume 2 one too many times, but I digress.

Damn, our pages get paid like $8 something. Wow, and the bonus is awesome. It's more than 5 weeks of work.

Shit, if we had that for our patrons, they would never leave...fact, a bunch of "business" people would permenantly live here.

Silly me, I thought it was her own phone. And she was right next to the children's area. Luckily the blinds were down, but ew.

Sorry about the nastiness. Wow, you really had the suck of all sucks.

Then of course, I'm curious was she riding the phone or was it up the whoo-hoo?
